I got a hankering for some innawoods camping vidya. living off the land, hunting and moving on across the land.

Sadly fucking minecraft is all i can think of that isnt some griefing simulator meme game and crystal chronicles has the vibe down but the gameplay is a bit effervescent and you dont explore really.

Can you think of anything?

You missed the Eco server, that had some of this going. It turns into industrialization over time, but the first couple days definitely feel pretty innawoods. It's also a comfy game. There will probably be another game hosted during the summer.

Its wierd its not in games more yet walking simulators are popular with some people. What man doesnt feel the wanderlust to explore woods and shit now and then? its that animal hunter buried deep under generations of simian excess but its always there. Gotta explore because its there.

Not that I know of. Some coop survival horror exists but that's considerably different.

Isn't that what Don't Starve Together was supposed to be? I never played it

2cd2ae No.14788491

>>14788407

horror i can understand because challenge breeds teamwork. but sometimes you just want to adventure. like playing your first mmo with friends and going around following no quest flow just to see what was around

2743a5 No.14788537

Minecraft and mods is the only best bet.

Terraria prefers bosses and building up towards god tier equipment

Red Dead maybe? Never played it.

Pulsar: Lost Colony is also a good bet but that's an early access space game. It does have some really cool environments but limits your home base to a starship. There was this one time my crewmates and I found a ship that's been over taken by a fungus thing that killed the crew in their sleep. That shit was brutal. We had to wear environmental suits just in case we don't get fucked either.

>>14788416

Yeah but Don't Starve has a really brown atmosphere, there's nothing really fun about the game if everything around you is trying to murder you. There's a difference between surviving and comfy exploring. Don't Starve is the former.

Same goes with The Forest. It's nice but the mechanics gear towards fort building and shooing away injuns.

The Forest on peaceful mode, I guess

d6d589 No.14788546

You can only focus on a few aspects of co-op survival. If you try and do everything, then you'll end up with a Minecraft-tier abomination.

It sounds like you want people to be nomadic in your game. What would you do to discourage people from making a fort and fucking off forever? What do you mean by "living off the land", exactly? Just hunting? Or am I going to need to secure water to purify while covering up my scent to avoid predators? What would be the point of exploration besides exploration?

>What would you do to discourage people from making a fort and fucking off forever?

It's not that hard.

<Inability to make permanent structures

<Wildlife and foliage either don't replenish or do so at such a slow rate that you're forced to move on to find resources

<Certain resources (i.e. water) are so scarce you're forced into conflict for control of them when discovered

d6d589 No.14788641

You forgot the critical part, which was the last question. What is there to see or find out there besides bullshit to keep you alive?

sound an awfull lot like what No Man's Sky tried…

I think what people want is freedom in vidya. Minecraft had that before they crammed as much shit in it as possible then it became some ultra abomination.

>>14788688 (checked)

C'mon, you and I both know that No Man's Sky is botched to the point that a blind man doing circumcisions can tell it's fucked up.

What does that mean? Freedom to do what?

Freedom to explore aimlessly, freedom to discover things/find secrets, freedom to fuck up so badly that you have to start a new save (or new character since I know a lot of multiplayer survival games have persistent worlds). Freedom to find an enemy that's way out of your league but you can still choose to nip at it's heels anyways. Basically everything that modern game devs are afraid to give you.

3a381a No.14788833

>>14788641

That depends on what the focus of game is in my opinion. You could make it about finding interesting, unique bosses to fight that reward unique items or ruins that teach you how to make better things or NPC camps where you can trade to reduce the suffering from RNG. There's many different types of carrots you can use to inspire exploration.

>>14788688

NMS was exploration for the sake of exploration and barely had any mechanics at all.

The Forest is pretty fun. It's surprisingly comfy even with cannibals enabled.

What about survival co-op game that is about making a fort with friends and surviving as much as you can?

It gets gradually harder with each horde but hordes are only once a week. This means you are gradually safe during the day and can hide in temporary barricades during the 6 out of 7 night. It allows for a lot of exploration especially once you repair yourself a Minibike.

It gets especially fun with friends where you can split your tasks and specialize in different skills.

098532 No.14789801

I actually have that. It's definitely enjoyable. But the devs are shite and havent updated in almost half a hear or more

dbb452 No.14790187

>>14789610

Has this game gotten any better?

I backed it on kikestarter (funpimps are a few chill niggas who used to mod and want to make cool games, pls no bully) a long time ago, and after a few updates I couldn't get 30+ fps on mid settings on a 780.

Moved to a 980ti but haven't touched the game since, has it made it to playable status yet?

Got bored cause my only strat was to build floating bases that covered most of a small lake, just swam around above zombies and smack them during horde nights.

I'm sure they've patched that by now.

>minibike

well at least they added vehicles.

Yep…

And we'll all get banned by a sensitive mod for pointing it out.
