Is it finally happening? Will Anon have to minutely sketch every room in every level again in order to make sense out of some bullshit riddle? And how many pits of infinite falling will it be this time 'round?

3a450d No.14788135
I've never played the first one.
It looked like it took the worst out of the metroidvania genre (endless backtracking, obnoxisous obstacles, terrible puzzles) and left out all the best (rpg elements, loot, varied combat).
How wrong am I?

It's a game with some really neat puzzles, is rather difficult even outside of those puzzles and personally I think it takes a lot of skill to master.
Or you can keep grinding money to get bullets like some fucking faggot and read guides and blow through the whole game, it's all up to how much you can take.

I think the problem is that you just have shit taste. Those are, generally, the shallowest parts of metroidvania.

Kinda looking forward to this, but at the same time, I'm worried that the devs will make the traps and puzzles pointlessly difficult because all the fans kept crying 'rape me harder!'

Same, what made me like La-Mulana was the amazing boss battles. The puzzles were a pain but some were alright and fun. Fuck the mantra puzzle though

I don't think that's going an issue for the main game, since they've stated as a design goal clearer feedback to the player when they activate or change something in the ruins especially if it's not in the same room to reduce player confusion. Now considering there's gonna be harder shit than Hell Temple in this game, that's probably gonna be there for the assfucking.
>>14789218
Mantra puzzle is fine, it's just in the time you took out a pen and paper and bothered solving it properly like I did, you could've just bruteforced it by spamming the mantras in every room.

I'm just open to being surprised. They've said that they began mentally working on La-Mulana 2 back in 2009 when they started working on the remake, and you can tell when they were tweaking puzzles for the remake that they were thinking about ways to push the puzzle design forward, even though they couldn't do everything they wanted to in the remake in the interest of keeping it faithful to the original. There's even a little tidbit in the original manual for a puzzle idea they never put in either version of the game. Surely after working on LM2 for five years and thinking about it for twice as long they're going to have something creative to share.
I think one thing I'm expecting is a few more riddles without text clues. In the Dimensional Corridor there are a few clues which are only illustrations, and it seems like a perfect fit for an archaeological adventure that some hints would be found in large murals in the background instead of on tablets. There's one conspicuous mural in the LM2 demo I stared at for a long time and sketched out in the notes.
>I'm worried that the devs will make the traps and puzzles pointlessly difficult because all the fans kept crying 'rape me harder!'
I doubt it, Hell Temple is an indication of how restrained these guys are with the difficulty instead of making things as sadistic as they possibly could. Erring on the side of being too easy would be more disappointing.

I never used subweapons in my normal playthroughs because they were too annoying to collect ammo for, or didn't do enough damage (seriously, try using Earth Spears against Viy, as opposed to say, just smashing his ass in with the axe). Sure, you could get the software and bracelet to get lods of damage, but how was I supposed to know that at the time?
So yeah, Palenque was a huge pain with the katana. He has a huge hitbox, very little windup time to move around, and does so much damage if he bumps you, its ridiculous

Yeah, it's a little strange that they remixed the bosses in the remake to be (mostly) built for melee combat when they were completely built for specific subweapons in the original, Galious-style.
>He has a huge hitbox, very little windup time to move around, and does so much damage if he bumps you, its ridiculous
That's the way I tried to do it dozens of times on my first playthrough before I figured out the trick with the weapon fairy and the chakrams. It's kind of a shame Palenque isn't a better boss considering they previously had experience making shmups. Will LM2 have PR3 EX?

There's the gem puzzle, anything you fail to gather from the Shrine of the Mother, and a few minor shortcuts here and there. There's also the life jewel in the Dimension Corridor while not truly lost forever, is a huge pain in the ass to get into after you kill the miniboss.

It's the same problem I have with Cave Story. I appreciate the graphics more in the original but I can't really stomach them for more than a few hours once I've tasted the higher detail stuff despite it having its faults.
