You mean when the game became popular until it declined because the company started adding needless shit?
Yes, but I admit animal farming and books were two worthwhile additions. Hunger is okay.

Before release, the lighting was darker and the game had a nice simplicity to it. The post-release versions are full of weird features and stuff the game could've done without.

I'm appealing to nostalgia fags. Arguing whether old is better than new, or new is better than old… is a worthless argument. It's like the hoarders and spendthrifts who belong in the 4th Circle of Hell.

Don't you dare to say it was my mod, it was ONE fucking ore block and ONE item added, which also crashed the game if the ore was blown up by a creeper because there is no documentation on how blocks should be set up with forge.
Honestly I see nothing wrong with going back to 1.2.5 Tekkit or 1.2.5-1.5 FTB since those were actually fun and didn't run like dry shit. These days though, I don't even have time to invest in playing.

Even so, tekkit and ftb for 1.2.5-1.5 could run at over 100 fps easily, whereas just having forge installed after version 1.6.4 can bring performance down to 60 fps with diminishing returns. I can go load up tekkit classic and run two ic2 terraformers at max power and even with all the block updates still average 98 fps, never mind that post 1.5 the load time more than doubles.

Minecraft is fun if you make it fun. The vanilla game is so bare-bones (with building possibilities and mod-ability) that it's like a kid with a set of building blocks. If you can't make something with practically infinite potential fun, that's entirely your fault. Maybe it's just not the game for you because you don't have a creative bone in your body? Nothing to be ashamed of, but it's not a problem with the game. Waxing nostalgia about the first two months you played it and were entranced by the freshness of the genre and the whole new-game honeymoon period and thinking that means it was objectively better back then is stupid.
Although, I'll admit that since Microsoft took over they're doing they're damndest to make it as un-fun as possible. I'm fully convinced that the "new mob" contest was totally rigged, just so they'd have an excuse to create and introduce a mob that has literally ZERO purpose but to break every overworld AFK farm.

I used to play on an autistic life simulation server in which people founded cities, states and countries and gameplay involved getting a job, driving trains with supplies and founding companies.
That was all done at 2fps of course, but I wish the server was still alive. It had a lot of players but the amount of mods meant it couldn't live for long which it didn't.

Just played Nu-Tekkit for 10 hours and got extremely trolled. The resource distribution is EA-tier-smartphone grind. Do not even touch this shit. Seriously, do not even try this shit. All the ores are so scattered that you might just not play. Complete failure - popular mod pack called: "Thermal Expansion" is actually just magic. No electricity, no different voltages, just magic.
How would people wanting a engineering-lite mod, quit the shit when power is suddenly magic?
After the Tekkit bullshit: I tried classic Technic Pack, and had good time. Best rainy day time waster.
139929 No.14797329
Mods killed themselves. Each mod wanted to have its own progression and crafting grind and not let modpacks merge those in sensible ways and it got to the point where in FtB or whatever I'd spend all my time creating an autobuilder network for the 200+ items I needed to begin playing the game then get bored and quit before getting beyond that.
To avoid repeating that mistake in the future, mods should be required to be open source.

Minecraft is pretty dead alright, but some weird things have happened. It's been 5 years or more since I last tried to play this shit. Apparently the serversite people put up shops, and started selling mods for real money. Shit is hilarious, but also very depressing, because it's aimed to underage children and they use the goldcoins (fake, but actually real money) and community pressure to sell this shit. They ask 10 bucks for a blueprint of a house, I don't even know what that means, I think you still have to build it yourself. And this is somehow legal. I just don't know anymore.

That's the same sort of laziness that killed it, where the creators saw the success of Minecraft as a way to play with Nerf guns all day. I thought I did. Then I played some pre-release versions, and realized just how much I appreciate some of the things they changed, like dragging materials in the crafting grid. The answer is "no." What I do desire is for mods to get official support from an API or some such, right now most mods only support MC 1.7.10 and a lot of modders leave the scene because they don't want to keep rewriting their codebases from scratch to match the new version changes.

I had fun with Minecraft.
You just had to find the kind of server where people built large wooden mansions in giant trees and make a long wooden fuse underground, perhaps to magma, perhaps just to manually spark with a flint and steel. Just gotta make sure it traverses suspiciously close to the underside of someone else's creations.
Maybe build some cool shit at a nice vantage point and invite the mansion's owner over to show him what you came up with, until his attention suddenly gets drawn toward his dwelling slowly being engulfed in orange warmth.
