Radical Heights was actually okay, for all its flaws. Well, not "okay" in the sense that it was any good, but in the sense that it tried to do some stuff to help alleviate the serious, grating issues its contemporaries faced:

>Having parts of the map cut off at the start only to open up later encourages players to not always land in the same "hot spots"
>Minigames scattered around the map encourage players to put themselves in danger for big rewards
There were some genuinely intelligent or at least interesting design choices in Radical Heights, but the biggest mistake the game had was its aesthetic by far. You can't release a game with a dedicated eighties aesthetic but also half-ass it so much and have a bunch of unfinished textures and buildings sitting around while also not having any music because of the way the genre works. Also, it wasn't sure if it wanted an eighties video game aesthetic, an eighties action movie aesthetic, an eighties game show aesthetic or just an eighties suburban mall aesthetic… which made it really weird to play.

Having played Fornite, PUBG and Radical Heights, I can't really see why anyone was ever attached to PUBG in the slightest. Compared to even the worst of its competitors it's just so fucking boring, and it was the first game I played in the genre. Movement is slow and restrictive, the entire gameplay aspect is actually just a drawn out series of dice rolls and takes very little skill, the game is loaded with cheaters and Chinese bots. It's no wonder everyone kinda jumped ship to Fortnite as soon as they could. Nobody I know, not even people who spent hundreds on PUBG, still plays PUBG.

Despite it's popularity, PUBG isn't a casual game, it's a casualize Military Simulator, which turns off a lot of people.
