It's one of my favorite puzzle games ever. Only ever found it, curiously, through a pack of DPCM samples I downloaded for Famitracker. I kept using them in old projects of mine, nearly six years ago now, and decided to check the game out at some point.
Might have to sit down and make more based on obscure NES and GB games, as well as some on old 8-bit computer games too. I was running out of ideas.

Not sure what you mean by this. It's obvious that the player with the bigger army and larger economy has an advantage, but there's tons of other things to consider like the terrain, resource distribution, map control, what units you're using, what units the enemy is using, scouting, civilization bonuses, unique units, unique techs, and a few others I probably missed. The game is pretty deep compared to something like C&C (which I also like).
