This is made worse when the level generation algorithm simply pastes prefab rooms together in a random arrangement on top of some minor/major random mutations for each level, where the designers implicitly admit that levels need to be handcrafted to some extent to be actually playable (Binding of Isaac can get away with this because the amount of room prefabs and amount of mutations for each room are huuuuuge, making each floor unique enough as a result of seeing a re-release and several expansions), but they go ahead with the randomization anyways because they still fell for the roguelite and infinite replayability meme. Like shit, why not make a level with actual coherent pacing and thematic/mechanical build-up?

That was the highest damage weapon at the time. The only alternative was a Meatskewer and that's a Red weapon, I only had 9 points in Red and 13 in Green. Besides, it did extra damage to burning enemies and my fireturret took care of that.

He's sort of misleading you. There's been no NA or EU localization for EDF5 announced. What got announced is one of those "Asian English" versions, like what they did with Dead or Alive Extreme 3. Some of these releases are passable while others are machine translations like what you see impatient people do with Illusion games. Your primary form of food is fish. You kill ample amounts of fish to survive. There is a projectile weapon. A couple if you count the repulsor. But if you only count the stasis rifle, then that's still at least one projectile weapon, even if it doesn't kill things. And you can get torpedoes.
Maybe the real reason you can't kill anything is so the monsters in the game maintain a level of threat to you and a liberal agenda was just an easy way to play it off.
