Alien: Isolation absolutely and perfectly pins down the retro-futuristic themes of the original Alien. The grain might be a little annoying to some, but you must agree the game is fucking beautiful, and it isn't even that graphic-intensive. It uses some kind of impressive trickery to still look good and run really well on most rigs.
I know we're foregoing discussion of the gameplay here, but it's worth noting that Alien: Isolation is a really good game to boot. Probably the best horror game I've ever played.

Some remarkably beautiful games in my opinion:
>Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed
Beautiful, vivid colors. Looks wonderful in motion. Everything about this game I just love, and it's just so pleasant to look at.
>Another World
The animations for this game are incredible to me, even today. How all of this shit was rotoscoped and then animated through vectors is insanely cool stuff. Also, that electric arc in the intro, that alone is some amazing animation work.
>Seiken Densetsu 3
The sprite art in this game is just absolutely gorgeous. Really any JRPG from the SNES/early PS1 era still holds up wonderfully even today. There's a timeless beauty to gorgeous sprite art.

Maybe not beautiful, but I had been somewhat captivated by the aesthetics of old PS1 era FMVs and the like. The higher budget ones at least. FFIX had nice ones for the most part. I think it's because they were still relatively constrained by hardware limits and couldn't go too overboard even with the rendered videos, so everything has just enough detail to look complex while not being too chocked full of effects and particles and shit that clutters the screen and makes things hard to read. The colors also felt very rich and vibrant. Something about them just felt very comfy and bright.

Crysis - the whole series is absolutely gorgeous, holy shit, everyone knows this, why do I even have to explain? Look at that sea, those trees, that draw distance, it's crazy.
Dust: An Elysian Tail - a rare 2D game that doesn't look either pixely or Flash-like. Everything is very well animated and the backgrounds kick ass. Maybe the best 2D I've ever seen.
Out Run 2006 - the quintessential Sega arcade driving game, full of lush environments to cruise and cruise through. Now it doesn't look that great on a screenshot, but everything just flows wonderfully.

I really like Rebel Galaxy. The perfect mix of stunning galaxy backdrops, rugged space cruisers bristling with guns, and blues rock music. No matter how many hours I played it I still found myself thinking "god damn that's pretty" while hyper space trucking goods from one station to the next. The whole package feels like one of those classic anime space operas, like Cowboy Bebop or Outlaw Star.
Gameplay is pretty simplistic and repetitive though. Needed a much longer campaign and probably could have stood to have fewer but more unique star systems. There was also basically nothing to do in the post-game. Also needed better weapon balance on things like rockets because limited ammo rendered them totally worthless with the way battles could drag out.

Sure, after the first Crysis was a decent success it wasn't enough to grow the company, so they made a contract with EA for 2 more Crysis games and the second one was notorious for how much it pulled back on the depth of the game play from the first and the level design of the first. It also had some of the worst optimization for its DX11 features ever seen in a game such as having flat surfaces subdivide into a ludicrous number of triangles to essentially cripple AMD/ATi cards and to always render the absurdly subdivided ocean even in levels where it's never visible. The game itself was a call of duty style shooter with minimized crysis suit powers.
Crysis 3 was more of the same as Crysis 2 design wise, but at least they sort of addressed the fucked up tessellation. The game isn't well optimized for systems with more cores so it's essentially going to run the same on brand new hardware as it would on 2012 hardware.
There was also a failed F2P shooter, warface, and a failed xbone launch title, Ryse which is helping bury Crytek, and how could I forget the purchase of Free Radical and the time splitters IP to do very little with it and push out the turd that was homefront 2.

The configuration in Subnautica is a neat thought experiment. A moon so close and so large, ignoring the almost impossible initial conditions to generate such an arrangement, would be so unstable in a non-mutual tidal locking that it would be extremely destructive to any life on it. Giant waves would probably be the least of your problems.
If they were stable in a synchronous configuration, they'd rotate around an almost eqidistant point between them like a binary star system. That would probably create a huge, permanent standing wave on the side facing the moon, which would be quite the odd sight. The average difference between low and high tide in our ocean is about 2 feet. Imagine how large it would be if our moon was that close, and then imagine it just stayed that way year round on one side of the planet.
And now I'm remembering this planet has two moons. Now you have a 3-body problem with no general solution. Good luck trying to figure that out.
