Character interactions aside is the game any good? I played a bit of the demo on 3ds but didn't care for it too much, thought it was pretty bland and the English voice acting was a giant turn off for me.

Fuck no. You need to grind like crazy and enemies give hardly any exp. The dungeons are boring as hell because they are randomly generated, and the final boss is retardedly hard.
