I'm playing Groove Coaster 4 (Touhou event), Magicians Dead and Maximum Tune 5 at the moment. I wish online matchmaking could be skipped in Magicians Dead because standing at the machine for 5 minutes before it fucks out and uses bots makes you look like an asshole. Also shout out to "Devin", the one and only human player I have been matched with. Nobody will have what we have.

I was trying to find a video of the (I think) House of the dead special arcade where you enter a room with a car-like machine in the middle that simulates the movement of the level (if the car in the game drifts, the "platform" you're at rotates 180º).

Arcades were dead where I live, outside of really small ones at pizza places, by the time I got into games. And even now, places claiming to still have arcades around here are actually just comprised of a couple of shooting ride cabinets, a bunch of ticket-spitters, and mobile games like flappy bird being projected onto canvases.

They also sell some fucking great nachos and hotdogs, this is the first time i've been to an arcade with food that doesn't taste like plastic or defrosted shit

The point of arcades is to use expensive, advanced and bulky equipment and gear that the average Joe can't afford for just some quarters, like a dance game with a nice dancepad or a racing game that uses one of those sick cabins that let you get inside, use a steering wheel and simulate every single rumble and bump. Anything else is really pointless and can be played at your own home in a console or PC.

Arcade games punished you by fucking up your score when you credit feed, thereby forcing the player to git gud at them. It's the antithesis of pay2win, which rewards casuals for spending more on the game. Of course the faggot retards that infest this shithole wouldn't be able to tell the difference, though.
Anyways, best arcade games are shmups, notably R-Type, Gradius and Toaplan. Vs. Puzzle games like Puyo are cool also.

There used to be a nickel arcade that my dad used to take my sister and I that was sick, it had a lot of decent old but good arcade cabinets like The Simpsons Arcade, Gauntlet, Metal Slug 3-6, SNK essentials and your basics like DDR, Time Crisis and MVC2. There would be long lines forming and people enjoying the company of others around the competitive cabinets and usually you met really cool dudes when playing coop cabinets. They even had a few arcade machines with Free Play open to everyone. Sadly it's in the process of shutting down by selling their cabinets because a nickel arcade just isn't feastable anymore in this current economy, I really wish I had enough cash to get my hands on one of their machines for all the memories it gave my sister and I.

I see a lot of "were" and "used to be" in this thread. I was hoping for discussion regarding actual arcades as they exist currently.
Yeah plenty of arcade games used to be quarter suckers, but that isn't really the case anymore. Its pretty much a defined length of time. In the games mentioned you get 1 race (Maximum Tune) 3 battles (Magicians Dead) or 3 songs (Groove Coaster). Its more like you are buying time. Games with continues still exist but its mostly Raw Thrills movie licensed trash like Transformers, Walking Dead, Terminator, Batman etc. that no self respecting person should actually play. Time Crisis 5, of course, but Time Crisis has always been very fair. Time Crisis 2 and 4 were my first 1cc's.
If anything arcade games have adapted some of the worst parts of mobile and console gaming, with timed events and unlocks, such as the Touhou event above. Better spend now to get your exclusive e-dick avatar to show them online!
In-store competition still exists, but inter-store competition exists as well thanks to online modes. When you set up a vs match online or race someones ghost like in Maximum Tune it will display the users name as well as the arcade they go to. Not to mention in store high scores, national high scores, and global high scores.
I don't know if any of this is good or bad what do you think?

This is true. Although consoles did eventually get accessories like steering wheels or flightsticks, arcades were the easiest place to experiment, implement and access that shit.

Most Arcade games had difficulty modes that the customer could set themselves via DIP switch to fine tune the amount of profit the cabinet could be expected to pull in. They were difficult even on the easiest modes by today's low standards, but then so were most games -including home consoles- of the time. If you ran across an arcade game that was overly jewish in it's quarter milking, chances are it's the fault of the guy running the establishment.

Playing even those easily emulated games in arcades is a blast. Sure you can play metal slug 2 on a ps2, wii, iphone, any other dozen emulators, but huddling up to a real mvs and going through it om there is a special experience that handling it on a third party 360 wired pad can't compare to.
