What are some games where I can make my own units/ships/etc and then do battles with them? Sci-fi is preferred, but medieval/fantasy would also be cool.

The Gal Civ series is close to what I'm looking for but it's a huge pain in the ass to actually find and fight the other guys, plus the actual combat is garbage.

Fallout 4 lets me arm my security guys with any weapon I want and give em grenades and stuff but the AI is shitty and my settlements never get attacked.

So overall I'm just looking for a game with

It's early access and a bit bland and I wouldn't blame you for not reading past that but it's still an RTS with a unit designer.

You snap parts together via their connection points but you can scale, curve, twist, taper and such to hopefully make something that doesn't look like ass.

Development is a bit on the slow end with a new weapon or propulsion part coming out every month.

Find a download of it somewhere and see if it's something you'd like.

BattleTech is worth a pirate once they fix the stupid amount of bugs the game shipped with. Strongest thing the game has going for it is map variety and role variety on Mechs. Occasionally, the story missions have a dumb premise though and some of the characters are gay as fuck. Your ship engineer is a fat female muslim who almost accidentally annhilates your ship by downloading a virus. I'm not shitting you this actually happens. Makes you wonder if SJWs are subconsciously aware of how incompetent snowflakes tend to be and accidentally express it even when they're not trying. Still an enjoyable game though, but I have been a fan of the universe for ages so I am biased.

This. This game actually made me even more autistic than I already was. A friend got me to get it to build rafts because he saw some guy on Youtube play it and he thought it was funny. He dropped it after an hour because he said it was too autistic and a month later I'm building fleets of amphibious battle tanks and helicopter drones.

Starsector has some ship customization but it's just guns, hull mods and energy usage. You can't actually make a ship though there's plenty of nice ships and more so with mods.

I've been shilling cosmoteer for ages now

and it did get working multiplayer with a dedicated server months ago, so it's better than ever

+ it has somewhat moddable ship parts

only downside is that the singleplayer gets stale very fast

If you liked GalCiv but hated the shitty combat, you will probably like SOTS. It's kind of like Total War in space, the battles are actually somewhat fleshed out. Definitely a fun game.

One of my favourite games of all time. Holy shit this game is satisfying. Also one of the few games that has meaningful differences between the species (especially their FTL systems, which are dramatically different resulting in very different play styles). Sequel is sadly barely functional, but the original is great. Also don't play Hivers first, they're hard as fuck until you know what you're doing. Rest are fine.

Cashout was fun a long time ago, but the (((devs))) decided time and time again to nerf everyones' fun and earnings and now the grind is obnoxiously long and you will get repeatedly exploded by invisible spearchuckers in pvp or hovercane cancer.

If you don't like that and you wanna relax in pve then tough fucking luck sonny, gayjin made them take 5x as long but they only give 2x the rewards as before, and they also decided to make enemies scale with your team so taking bigger cars actually makes it harder to win, to the point where you will be facing hordes of shitty cars with one machinegun that miraculously have 1000 fucking hp even on the easiest of difficulties, and it only gets more retarded from there.

Seriously, fuck (((gaijin))) and what they did to this game.

I'm pretty damn sure that both AI car hp and weapon hp scale with your ps. I went and experimented after the raid change with a 2k car with three white MGs and with an 7k car with three miniguns, and jesus fucking christ on a cross it's bullshit trying to drop even the tiny raider buggies with the shitty shotguns at 7k, but at 2k the AI cars get raped like a pack of niggers was on it.

Pretty fucking much. If you didn't start playing right around the time (((open beta))) started, then you're basically in for the Gaijin Grind(tm). Here's just some examples of how jewish they've gotten:

>Require fuel (i.e. timegated resource for PVE that you have to either grind through PVP by putting fuel tanks that make your car more vulnerable to exploding, or wait until the daily reset for more)

>Made it so that you could get enough fuel for one easy PVE raid if you took a fuel tank and won (and survived, because fuck you that's why)

>Decided early on that players were making (((too much money))) so they nerfed fuel gains from PVP by 75%

>Decided around october last year that players were still making too much money

>Start putting blatantly OP gear in paid bundles (looking at you, tacklers) while saying they "weren't going to make the game P2W"

>Also nerf income by moving the two rarest crafting resources to the PVE only in medium and hard difficulties, eventually change back ONE of those two because of player backlash

>Removed all EXP and resource rewards from PVP if you leave the match early
