60bfa7 No.14714568

Long story short, Bamco just announced Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time: https://archive.fo/BN36Q

https://www.oneangrygamer.net/2018/04/little-witch-academia-chamber-of-time-multiplayer-trailer-revealed/57407/

Now, the one thing I'm curious about is why does it seem like Bamco is the only company putting out "anime games" in the recent years because, in addition to this, you also have Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet, that new Boku no Hero Academia game, Gundam, One Piece, Dragon Ball, Naruto, Girls und Panzer, Saint Seiya, and so on. Meanwhile, the only property I've heard about coming from different company is Koei Tecmo's Attack on Titan 2 and Sega's Hokuto ga Gotoku. So, the question I'm trying to make is why does it seem like Bamco almost has a monopoly on games based on anime and/or manga in recent years?

44d952 No.14714578

Do they have a monopoly on the rights? Only thing I can think of why so many properties are under Bamco's control.

>Bandai makes cheap toku shit for Toei, budget licensed games

>Namco made anime games already since they were one of the big giants of the arcade scene

>Sega went bankrupt and restructured, they funded a lot of shit themselves before that

>licensed budget shit takes more money to make now, lower budget companies would rather make and release their own games independently than licensed shit to promote a brand

They have that celshade engine that they worked hard on. They also have the rights to the most popular franchises which is the true fuel behind their consistent sales numbers.

37561a No.14720485

I think they have a deal with Shonen Jump to have the vidya rights to whatever is being published. So that covers a ton of stuff. Then I think it's probably because they have such big studios and good developer relations that they can do most jobs quickly.

It's a shame they didn't outsource MHA to CyberConnect like they did Naruto. It's looking to be really underwhelming.

Dunno why it's like that now. All I know is that Sucy is best girl, and that she's gonna be my go-to in Chamber of Time.

8cd5ae No.14720559

Because Bandai is a fucking huge toy company. Like "top 3 toy companies in the world" huge and the only one of the three that bothers with Japan. If the game rights aren't outright bundled with toy rights, they have an "in" for negotiating for the game rights.

Further Namco Bandai has a notable steak in some anime studios and outright owns several others. This means Gundam (Namco Bandai owns Sunrise), Dragon Ball (NB is a stake holder in Toei), Saint Seiya (also Toei) and Girls Und Panzer (owns Actas) aren't really going to anywhere else.

Most of what Bamco publishes are popular shonen anime/manga. I imagine since the company makes toys as well the businesses have partnerships, and Bamco has been good at delivering consistently decent games.

A monopoly it is not, though. Hokutou Ga Gotoku is a recent enough example of SEGA's collab over a classic anime, and plenty of other publishers make anime style shit as well.

Also worth thinking about is that Bamco is one of the few major Japanese publishers still thriving, with Capcom and Konami suffering at the moment and Squeenix being a shitshow.

After the infinite money train dried up from centralized lending, companies have had to be much, much safer. This is reflective in the anime industry itself, where something typically goes from Web Novel (optional) -> Light Novel -> Manga -> Anime and is pared down at each stage, and the anime is aired as a 1 cour promotion for the light novel release, and if people are going to go around greenlighting games, they're going to do so on properties that sell well and/or have a baked-in market. You're seeing less original properties in general, and if they're showing up it's not generally at the anime or game level, it's in web novel/light novel/manga format, and only gets adapted if it gains traction.

Bandai was always a conglomerate operating on monopoly as it's base business. Almost all products based on anime, manga and tokusatsu outside TV or cinema are property of Bandai. Toys and video games included. And Bandai is always looking for means to buy the rights of what it does not posses yet.

Bandai isn't the borg. They haven't been stooping to squeenix levels and started licensing indietrash games for publishing. Their games are mostly popular anime series, and they are of fairly consistent good (not great) quality.

Also who is it going to go to if not them? The various indietrash companies trying to dig their tendrils into the Japanese market?

>they are of fairly consistent good (not great) quality.

I'd say there's way more misses than hits with Bamco's licensed anime games. The SAO games are a great example of this. The only ones that aren't total shit are Hollow Realization and Fatal Bullet, and even those just have solid foundations that could become good games if they refined what they had with a game not based on SAO. Bamco also royally fucks over these games with absurd amounts of DLC (Hollow Realization, in particular, had half of its content cut and earmarked as DLC) because of they know SAO fans are retarded enough to cough up the cash.

Better to always have competition than to have the same board of directors dictating everything for many years, and nobody being able to complain when shitty practices or bad games are forced into the market. Japanese games and consumers would benefit more from a market full of competition, instead of Bandai's grip on every major franchise.

Also, their games are not guaranteed to be good. Mostly, they are hit or miss.

Namco Bandai are kind of the Japanese EA in the respect that a lot of licensed shit is funneled to them. They make and distribute the games mostly on time amd under or on budget just good enough to enjoy but ultimately hollow experiences. You can expect an above average quality from them that consistently sells. There is your answer.

Be careful with this line of reasoning, its not far from becoming a fanboy

>if this shitty localization company doesn't bring over the games who will

>they aren't the worst around

is what your post reads incredibly like. They are responsible for some horrible things existing, like Denuvo, and they are known to censor very much.

I still think they make good games, but one should always be aware of who you're buying from and supporting and if you care, you should let your voice be known to them. If you're defending them, and you haven't let them know you have problems with their shit then you're a fucking cuckold for the company.
