So its SNK's 40th anniversary celebration of the NEO GEO brand. They have a collection coming out on home consoles but its a small selection of games.
Since they have put out teasers suggesting they are following sega into the 'mini' market of closed system emulator consoles.
What are you expecting gamewise? or are you underage and dont know about SNK games at all?
and if the image leak is legit and the minicab is fun what would you do after jailbreaking it?

i think in this case its the little cab, some folks dont even have CRT's anymore let alone old consoles. Not everything was made of nintendium like the NES and old hardware doesnt last. If people don't want to MAME it and crave something even a little like the old experience they will pay for it.
i know i emulate all the neo geo pocket games i want but if they made some handheld equivalent i'd snap it up.

This might appeal to me, because even the rich kids I knew growing up didn't have a Neo Geo. Everyone knew about it, but no one had ever seen one. I'd probably buy in for a TV-connected mini console or a simple handheld with built-in games. I don't really care for that gimmicky and cheap-looking plastic cabinet, though.

The little thing is cute but unless they release just the shell I don't see it being worth a purchase. The NEO-GEO X ended up being garbage. Mine hard resets whenever all four face buttons are depressed. The clicking stick is nice but useless on a machine that can't handle it's own buttons being pressed.

Even if it were a quality build, I don't really see the point. Sega long-ago licensed out the Genesis/MegaDrive to third party hardware manufacturers and it seems like they are a dime a dozen. Some of which even play games directly from the original cartridges.
The only reason why anybody would want to buy a Sega Genesis Mini is for the novelty of having the first Sega game console released in almost two decades. If Sega aren't the ones manufacturing it, then it's just another shitty licensed product. That feeling of authenticity goes a long way, especially for the kind of fuckheads who buy systems like the NES mini - to sit on a shelf and look cute and nostalgic, but never actually played.
Personally, I think they're missing a huge potential for releasing a full line of Sega Mini retro consoles - including the Master System, Saturn, and Dreamcast. It doesn't matter that those three systems weren't nearly as popular as the Master System - the same kind of faggots who buy video-game Bobbleheads and 1-up T-shirts will buy them for decoration.
Personally, I just want a Sega Saturn that loads ISOs from internal storage and can be hacked to run any Saturn game that I inject into it. A Dreamcast would be great too, but especially the Saturn since there still isn't a really matured Saturn emulator out there yet.
Hell, I wouldn't even mind if they added wifi and allowed it to connect to a digital storefront so you could buy and manage your game library - provided they could offer Japanese games in foreign territories.

My Master System holds up. Plays every cartridge the first time they're plugged in. My Colecovision, Intellivision, C64 and Vectrex all work just as fine as an NES and take less tries to get a game running. I don't have an Atari 7800.
What are you trying to say exactly? Something about longevity? Do you have any specific examples?

Things like the Turboduo were pretty infamous for it, like a 989% capacitor rate days after leaving the production line. Not just one faulty run either they just used shit capacitors. Almost all the consoles had one huge glaring issue. Worst the NES had to any degree was a small number of spring loaders breaking which was an easy DIY fix and they later made the top loader to avoid it completely and later moved onto that design for the snes and n64.

>Turboduo capacitors
Okay fair enough.
The point I was trying to make is that the NES is notorious for being arguably the worst when you are trying to get a game actually running, which is in stark contrast to many of the systems made at the same time or before it. This, as I'm sure you know, is due to a shitty connector made of softer metal (I think nickel) because they were using cheap parts. I believe this evidence is enough to discredit claims of higher buildquality for that particular console. Also I wasn't sure if you were talking out of your ass and I'm in no mood young man

the nintendium meme doesn't actually come from superior quality, just long term stability. A NES 30 years ago and a NES today is far more likely to be in the same condition than say a Mega Drive. Same applied to the Game Boy. Those things survive bombings in the gulf war and still worked. Nintendo didn't make the best hardware, but they made it to last.

The old NES has plenty of potential issues, especially the frontloader one, the toploader has less but you're gonna have the voltage regulator, ram chips, CPU or PPU fails on you at some point although those will still last 20 years in terrible storage conditions, well except the connectors (as in the back ones too) those will rust like nothing if you store them badly.
t.bought some untested/trashed NES for cheap to learn basic soldering skills.

You know what i would do? Release a little cheap console like this, put fighting-games on it and be able to connect to Wifi. Imagine having a small little handheld like that being able to play SNK-games anywhere against others both via internet and lan. That would be cool.

When are they going to make real emulator consoles that can work with modern TVs? Just seems like third party console makers are putting in more effort than the previous/old console makers. Cartridges and CDs are already getting to the point they won't work anymore and only enthusiast at this point are even searching for CRTs to play these old games. In 10-15 years, those old games could be obsolete and we'll only have the roms to work with to approximate how they would've played, looked and sounded visually.

No hardware is perfect and going to last forever. Everything requires maintenance, and maintaining old hardware is part and parcel of enjoying it. I would call a console that continues to function long after other consoles die out the ass to be a sign of "quality". Except for the mentioned issues with the front-loader NES, whch was designed that way for marketing reasons. My top-loader still runs like a champ.

Pics related are what the mini is actually supposed to look like (the one that OP posted is apparently just a Raspberry Pi setup that some hobbyist in Japan made) as well as the games that are supposedly included.
It's tiny as shit and pretty much screams novelty item than something to actually play on (and they probably that knew that as well since it has an HDMI port and it looks like they plan on selling new versions of the old NEO GEO CD gamepad to use on this thing)
One more thing, apparently SNK already gave one of these to one of their business partners last year. https://www.snk-corp.co.jp/us/press/2017/113001/
