I just beat FF3 and FF4 (preddy fun but too simple) I want something with more story and meat and cool characters…what should I play next? FF6, Final Fantasy X HD or Trails of Cold Steel or Ys Lacrimosa or just finish off FF 9 (half way through it)?

Also is it bad to play too many rpgs at the same time? I find if I play more than 2 then I don't get connected as much and lose interest

I will be getting a switch this summer, I just have a big backlog of VITA and 3DS shit to finish first.
Handheld gaming is just so convenient, specially since I'm at work/school 10hours a day and also its so intimate, you're holding the entire game/screen in your hand, right up to your face.

I will get shat on for this but try ff7. For all it's failures in the plot department and world building, its cast is only second to ff5 and ff9 in terms of charisma and depth. There is a lot of little tidbits of party interractions in every new location since they actually spread out around it to do their own thing which creates casual immersive scenarios that will make you feel invested later on. You can also play it on pc with mods for a better experience.

FFX HD is worse than the original. They butchered quite a few of the background tracks, and the soundtrack for X was absolutely gorgeous.
Also, in the remake, the character models look like dolls. Think Sims 3. They fucked with the shaders.
If you want to play X, I recommend emulating the PS2 version. Hardly any problems with the right settings on PCSX2, and it's well documented.
Don't give Square Enix any money for any of their lazy ports on Steam. They deserve to starve.

I think the graphical improvement is worth it, the music is fine from what I've heard.
The character models might look a bit different but they still look very nice imo. This sort of nitpicking isn't enough to make me want to play the original over the remastered.

Final Fantasy has always had a very large focus on the story, the gameplay itself is shit unless you have an autistic hard on for dull turn based rpgs that have almost none of the rpg qualities that make them interesting. The gameplay is there to support the story and the story supports the lackluster gameplay.
