Old Age and Gaming
I am a literal old fag. I am 40 years old and have been a gamer since the Commodore 64/Atari 130 XE/Atari 2600 era. Back in the day, I had lightning fast reflexes. I was a force to be reckoned with.
But now I am old as fuck.
I am playing Cave Story and am unable to get past the "machine boss" after the third try. I literally get my ass kicked by this thing and it's not that difficult. I am also drinking right now, but I don't think that's the problem. I think my age is coming through and turning me into the equivalent of a casual and it's really making me want to kms.
Am I the only oldfag here? Is this place just a bunch of peppy 15-year-olds? Can anyone relate to the problem that I face?

Lucky anon, I don't even have time to play anymore. Even when I do I can't remember what it was to really be able to lose myself enthusiastically in one. Spoilers: In the end we all become old, out of touch, and what the kids are doing seems first silly and frivolous at later threatening and alien.

I guess there will always come a time when the most we can do is really say goodbye to what we used to do, as age dulls the mind. We must find hobbies that give an output for our ever changing minds, and let go of those that we can no longer carry. It's a sad truth, but one we all must come to terms with eventually. When I got Cuphead, I loved it. The challenge was immense and great. However, I gave up after I couldn't defeat the green dragon.
I also abandoned the final boss in Gianna Sisters: Twisted Dreams due to the tedium involved.
I think what it comes down to is perhaps tedium. I don't feel like engaging in repetitive motions for too long as if it's an endurance match for my reflexes.

To counteract my teenage years of being a huge casual and mostly playing baby first person shooter shit like tf2, stalker, and a bunch of hl/2, doom, quake mods or other slower action games like mount & blade I've moved onto games like god hand, devil may cry and not just casual playthroughs but the highest difficulty, striving for excellence in execution and rank.
I'm 25 now and so far it's been an upward trend, playing more reflex intensive games that are also more stimulating for my mind like rhythm games and shooting games. Keep your mind sharp and your muscles sharp too. I look forward to facing increasing challenges as I hit 30, 35, 40, 45.

I used to be absolutely godlike at Quake 1 and Tribes and I was able to keep up reactions through my 20s in StepMania (at peak, 13 notes per second without a 'great' via keyboard) but it started fading in my 30s even with constant practice. Coming up on 39, and I've still got pretty alright reflexes, though my precision is started to slip. Took me forever to learn and beat Fantasy Zone 2 as a kid, and I can still kick that game's ass with a bit of practice. I have noticed a bit of slowdown, part of which I attribute to modern game design being largely shit and making me weak, and I also don't take quickly to some of the weird mechanics certain indieshit and jap games coming out now use. Overall for me, I think it's more an issue of midlife crisis reminding me that I don't have a whole lot of time left to really fuck around and waste on learning the intricacies of game mechanics and "gittin gud" unless I REALLY like a title - so I'll just find some small roster of moves I can exploit and brute-force my way through many titles. As a result, I also tend to avoid (or at least get really frustrated with and half-ass) shit that has you hunting down crafting ingredients - like Monster Hunter, Star Ocean, and most MMOs. I don't have time left to grind for meaningless shit.

Cave Story is not about reflexes though. It's about pattern recognition and muscle memory.
While it's true that with old age you won't be able to compete against young people in reflexes, in games like FPS, RTS or Fightans, but in games where enemies and bosses use the same telegraphs and movements you can just learn the thing and then repeat it mechanically without thinking.
Just keep replaying it until you beat it.

38 year oldfag reporting… reaction time to instant things such as blocking an unexpected attack or shooting at an appearing enemy slowly goes up as you get old. It's not by much, but turning say a 0.18 second reaction into a 0.24 time can really hurt in some genres. It's due to nerve tissue aging and general neural decay in motor areas of the brain.
That's why you won't see any 30+ pro starcraft players for example. Pattern recognition, muscle memory, and general quick thinking all seem to stay fine, but you lose the razor sharp edge in the "see thing and instaclick on it" department.

I started with 2600, C64, megadrive, then PC.
I thought I was becoming too old to play, having left games completely for several years, and before that a few years of not touching them much, been overseas without a computer for 6-7 years now, so that is a factor.
Had a half decent computer for a few months recently, installed rainbow six vegas 2, and found myself dying constantly.
Thought my reflexes were gone, felt old.
Threw myself into it, played every day for 2 weeks, and I was becoming good again, soloing skirmishes. In one match my friend was observing me and saw me kill half a dozen in a second or two, said I looked like Robocop.
So the answer is, you probably stopped caring about games, as I did years ago. You can still play them but your heart isn't in them. Fighter pilots still work until about 40 or thereafter, they have the fastest reflexes in the world.
What matters is putting the time, the hard work and the emotional content into the playing of the game.
Sit at it, and focus on it, make it more important, play it until you are sweating from the adrenalin.
Become a machine, bypass the adrenalin and reach the zone where everything becomes automatic and fluid.
Aside from that, you are still young, physically speaking.
Human males can retain nearly the same physical performance until about 70, and sometimes beyond. You just have to work at it.
Take up a fast reflexes sport like squash, do it reguarly, take it seriously. Fight for yourself.
Stay in good shape, play a fast reflex game regularly. It makes a difference and a lot of it is training.
You don't have to put hours in every day to maintain it to a decent level, but it does have an effect on your neurology, positively.

Do research on it, there are ways to slow it massively.

Apart from that, stay alert and active as possible, fight like a gladiator, don't retire yet.

>play a fast reflex game regularly. It makes a difference and a lot of it is training.
I was doing this with StepMania and the most painful 'youth is over' experience I've had was when no matter how hard I was practicing my score stopped increasing and started sliding. I was doing it at "holy shit how are you even seeing the notes are you even human" speed so I was really pushing my neurology pretty hard. And that made it very obvious what I was losing.
However, I think continuing to push myself kept me mostly intact. I just can't do that kind of absurd blink of an eye stuff anymore.

I was in Ultima in the first year too.
Wolf3d, Doom, Quake 1 which was the golden age of fps. Tribes 2.
Ultima will never ever be reborn or replaced, it is gone, and no one who wasn't there in the beginning will understand why it was so different and why it will never come again.
It was in large part due to the players themselves, they were new because it has never been done before, there were no rules, people made the game and there were no words for what people were doing, no self awareness that ruins everything it touches.
You played the game like it was another reality.
29c2a6 No.14708883
>>14708879
Maybe you weren't interested in it.
Focus on games with more than one element involved. Shooters for example, if you are good, you will have massive predictive capabilities that will cause people to kick you from servers claiming you are cheating.
Never give up.
It is like an 'old' footballer said some years ago when asked how he keeps up with the younger players, he replied that he doesn't run around as much, because he knows where to run to and which shots to take.
I found myself increasing in reflexes massively after a couple of weeks of intensive playing. Neurological changes on a larger scale take considerably longer, so if I were to play for months or a year, there would be greater physical changes.
You can also take mineral and vitamin supplements for your nervous system, magnesium, copper, zinc, manganese, and so on. Do some reading.

I'm 33 and although my reflexes aren't as sharp as when I was 18 they are still pretty sharp and I have no trouble with single player vidya. In fightans I'm not as good as I used to be, but that as well can be sourced to the fact that I simply don't have as much time to practice them as I used to.
>I am also drinking right now, but I don't think that's the problem.
That might as well be. Don't underestimate the ability for alcohol to fuck up oldfags. We just have enough experience to not drink enough to pass out and vomit on the carpet, but a single glass of Scotch right now makes me much more lethargic than one in my early 20s for sure.
But even then anon, you might have a health issue. Reflexes don't deteriorate THAT much with age. I mean, if you had great reflexes they will deteriorate into good reflexes and you should still shred through Cave Story no problem. Go see a doctor mate.

I wasn't a 'casual', I was playing shooters mostly, but have played from most genres. I didn't play any dance games.
My peak was in wolf ET, where I was constantly kicked from servers for 'cheating', I became bored with that and did trickjumping for a year or two, and was becoming pretty good at that. Any game I put effort into, I became good at.
Like I said, fighter pilots are still oked to fly up until 40-45, as long as they fulfil the criteria. Much of physical and neurological degeneration is due to non-use. You might have lost something, but more likely is that you stopped caring about them, or took a break for too long and didn't try to get back in.

You can stave off the deterioration with practice, but you cannot fully eliminate it. When you get old your brain simply isn't as sharp for quick reflexes as when you were young for very physical reasons. There is a reason why there aren't top performing athletes in any sport in their 40s and that reason has nothing to do with "they aren't trying anymore" or "they don't put much practice" and even monsters that get to the 40s performing well enough are of course not as good as their peak in the late 20s.
>>14708935
My physical endurance and strength are much higher now than in my 20s. I was a sedentary lanklet back then, nowadays I'm /fit/ and gained a shit ton of muscle. My reflexes are fine, but I know I'm not as good as when I was 18. I'd say I'm performing about 5% slower than in my younger days, which is fine for most vidya except for very precise shit like red parrying a chun super in 3rdS and punishing her with a SPD on hugo. I cannot do that reliably anymore through a combination of lack of practice and the small loss in reflexes making a bigger difference in this case, since it is such a precise trick

If you've lost 5%, you need to work harder to overcome that natural loss. You have experience and tactical superiority.
It is the same when they nerf something in a game, you have to find a way to play around it, or find a new game.
Also, 5% online can be affected by lag very easily.
If you don't have a 20ms ping, and the server isn't 5 minutes down the road from you, that will be a major element.

There are also reaction time trainers out there, little programmes where you can perform various tasks and customise them for what you require.
I used those for only a few days and had a noticeable improvement. Not biological changes, more like reawakening.

I'm 32 now. the main obstacle to playing games is more responsibilities and demands on your time. your brain should definitely be able to keep up. with that said, your reflexes gradually slow down with age and there's no avoiding this. all you can do is shift towards games that don't require lightning inputs.

Saw a video a few months ago with lord British talking about how they had created a whole, living, self sustaining eco system in ultima - but due to how players just went around killing everything that moved in the alpha/early beta, then they removed it.

>If you've lost 5%, you need to work harder to overcome that natural loss.
And that I do. I just slightly changed my playstyle to compensate that natural loss. The most competitive and reflex heavy games I play are fightans and, well, I stopped playing execution heavy characters like I did back in the day because I don't have much time to practice them and because that loss in reflexes will make me drop a key combo or confirm one day. But yeah the lack of time to practice is the biggest problem here. I now tend to favor more neutral/poking/footsie focused characters with easy to execute combos and more lenient confirms as these characters plays to the strengths of knowledge and experience I have for playing this shit for almost 20 years. It isn't flashy, but it still gets the job done.
A 5% loss is marginal and only I can notice actually. To my friends I'm still an unbeatable beast in Street Fighter with any character. But it is annoying to get hit by something or fail to react to a throw by a frame and know that 10 years ago I might have reacted fast enough.
Still, as I said, OP problem is probably a health issue or it can definitely can be improved with practice because his reflex deterioration is too steep for just aging.

1.- Exercise to mantain your neuron genesis and mantain a healthy system. This won't make you younger, but you need to do it for maintenance in order to feel like youre in your 20s
2.- Eat healthy. Drop sugar. caffeine and alcohol altogether. All of this tire the brain out. Also, incorporate omega 3 and healthy fats into your diet. Eggs for breakfast, Avocado, put olive oil on your salads. Throw Garlic and olive oil to anything applicable, even if you're eating bread.
3.- Take ginkgo Biloba . It will increase your circulation and cell reproduction. GNC has some good brain health support pills that are neurologist recommended.
Do all of these and your reflexes and performance will increase. You can have coffee, but limit it to decaf and only 3 a day (decaf still as caffeine). Much better, drink green tea. The 50mg of decaf and flavonoids will boost your reflexes exponentially. make drinking green tea a habit
There you go, you can have a healthy brain and you will feel like you're in your 20s. You shouldn't feel a decline in your ability until you're 70 if you eat healthy and exercise. Exercise. no sugar/alcohol/caffeine. Omega3 and healthy fats. remember.
Lastly, try and sleep 8 hours every night and go to bed no later than 11:30.

44 this year. Blarghpost incoming.
The first console we ever got was Coleco TV Pong in the late 70's. My dad bought it to play with his buddies whenever they came over to drink beer or smoke weed. That was my first intro to vidya.
Soon after that, after my dad got a better job, we could afford an Atari 2600, and I played the fuck out of it. The recent announcement of Toys 'R Us going out of business made me giggle like a motherfucker, because their games were always overpriced as fuck, while department stores like K-Mart and Hill's were always running sales. I remember the Pac-Man port being complete shit, but I spent a fuckload of time on Enduro and River Raid. I think the last game I played on it was E.T. before I finally got bored with it. One of the kids up the street had well-to-do parents, so they bought him whatever he wanted, including an Atari 5200, which I really wanted at the time because it did somewhat faithful recreations of arcade games.
And brother, were there a fuckload of arcades during the 80's. In 1982, I was eight years old, and almost got lynched by a bunch of high schoolers for handing them their asses at Tempest. The local arcade in my little ass town was called Hoag's, but they shut down because I think they got busted dealing weed and coke out of the place. Not entirely sure. But there was a convenience store nearby that kept about four different cabinets on rotation, so that was the hangout for kids on our side of town. The one game they always had was Street Fighter II. That game made them so much money it was unreal.
We didn't get an NES at first launch, because my mom had recently divorced my dad for being a drunken wife-beater and had finally had enough of his shit. Therefore, she had to work her ass off to keep my sister and me alive. But she did try to get us some videogames so I would have more incentive to stay home and watch my baby sister while she worked insane hours at whatever factory was paying the most money at the time. She found a Sega Master System on sale somewhere, grabbed a couple of games for it cheap, and I got to play that for a while. The notable games I liked for it were Miracle Warriors, My Hero, and Phantasy Star.
Then we were finally able to get an NES and shit took off. The mom-and pop video store up the road rented games for 50 cents a day, so I spent hours and hours and hours trying to beat Castlevania and it's sequels. I grinded like mad on Dragon Warrior, and was the first kid in the neighborhood to reach and beat Mike Tyson in Punch-Out.
Around the time the Genesis and SNES were coming out, I was old enough to work, so I could start getting my own game systems. I was able to save up enough cash to get both eventually, but the Genesis was my platform of choice. One of the cooler things I remember was the Sega Channel, which was nifty as hell as it would stream games from your cable TV connection to your Genesis. We got it in '94, and I was twenty at the time, so vidya wasn't really high on my list of priorities, but my sister played the hell out of it.
After that, I had a PS1, PS2, Dreamcast, and a succession of toasters that I could barely play the latest games on. The last game system that really sparked my interest was the Dreamcast, because Sega was something magical up to that point, and when the DC died, Sega truly died with it.
Forgive the rambling. Just wanted to wax nostalgic due to the topic.

It's just a matter of getting used to the games and learning the mechanics, but that is where the problem lies, not necessarily in physical aptitude but mental instead - you can't properly 'get into' the game and learn it if you're playing in short bursts or have stuff on your to-do work list that is hanging on your head, because it results in half-assed concentration.

that's likely a big part of the problem. It's also likely because you don't have the free time to play video games all day like you did when you were a kid. I doubt it's because you have bad reflexes dude to old game. I'm in my 30's and went through a phase where I stopped gaming for several years. When I started gaming again I was very rusty and it took several years before I was back in form. To resolve your issue, I suggest you exercise moderately to vigorously every day, to create the ideal environment for your brain and nervous system to become "adaptogenic". You want this ideal environment to make you better at adapting to what is demanded of it, instead of being a STIFF. Alcohol is often to cover up the fact that you're a STIFF, but you shouldn't drink to stop being a STIFF, but to be a STIFF that drinks STIFF drinks. YA JIFFY?
Play some reflex video games, call it reflex training. There's a Unity game on Newgrounds or somewhere called "Accelerate" or "Acceleration" that involves you just avoiding obstacles whilst steadily accelerating through a tunnel. Play that. >omega 3s
Just to add.
Omega fats accelerate aging, omega 3s can be anti-inflammatory but will lower your immune system (which is why some people recommend it for autoimmune disease) and still accelerates aging, at least spoiled omega fats definitely do (and they spoil if you cook it, which is most omega fats on store shelves, cooked fish, partially why the Japanese eat fish raw they've frozen long enough to kill the parasites in even though it's fucking retarded). If you start taking some form of omega 3 fat that's been overcooked and stop you'll definitely notice accelerated aging, though people will say it keeps them looking young if they continuously take it (I can't say if uncooked omega 3s are any better since the stomach cooks food anyways). Omega 6's make you sterile and gay. Avocados are high in omega 6. Saturated fat is healthier than omegas since your brain can use it like sugar for fuel, fish oil capsules are poisonous since they're made with alcohol so you're dosing your brain with alcohol mixed with overcooked cancerous fat, shit will lower your I.Q instead of magically increasing it. Avoid vegetable oil, embrace saturated fat with the least amount of omega fats as possible if you really want fat. Too little carbs will make your muscles and your brain atropy, aim for 100grams a day (350-400 calories of carbs) minimum unless you're doing keto shit, though nobody can actually say if the cortisol magically disappears when doing keto or not, the increased cortisol causes your muscles and brain to atrophy and shrink. Try to avoid Ginko from China. Rest of the advice is ok.

With olive oil, you'll want to spend money on quality as rancid shit will deteriorate your body instead of rebuild it.
You'll want the organic, cold pressed, virgin olive oil if you can afford it. Organic goes without saying, chemshit is chemical warfare on the goyim. Cold pressed is ideal since if it isn't the heat will make it go rancid. Virgin since you want the first press as oil made with subsequent presses will become more and more rancid as they oxidize from air exposure.

>The last game system that really sparked my interest was the Dreamcast, because Sega was something magical up to that point
Same thing here. After the PSX, I got really burned out on gaming and almost walked away from the hobby altogether. Then I went to Ozzfest with some family, and they had the Sega Mobile Assault Vehicle there showing off the Dreamcast, having band members from Pantera getting up on stage and playing DOA2 while the roadies set up for the next lineup. It was fucking beautiful, especially after Saturn had zero presence in the US the previous gen - and even the marketing for it was pretty weak and "strange". It felt fucking good to see Sega hitting back, and hitting back hard. I got one just in time for PSO's release, and goddamned did it reinvigorate my love for video games. Then Sony and their shills come along talking shit about multi-media center capabilities and how the PS2 is a super-computer capable of Toy Story level graphics - all because Sony wanted to skirt some fucking import taxes - and the very company that almost killed my love for games, killed the last best hope for the industry. Nintendo chased the casual crowd of non-gamers, Microsoft put out their own multimedia center and started many of the cancers that infest gaming today, and it's all been downhill from there.
My interest in gaming hasn't started wane again until fairly recently - and by now, it's too fucking late to get another hobby. I'm in too deep. Wasted too much of my prime on bad games on bad systems.

>They found that, fertile men had higher blood and spermatozoa levels of omega-3 PUFAs compared with the infertile counterparts. Also, the serum omega-6/omega-3 PUFAs ratio was significantly higher in infertile men. These findings have also been replicated in human clinical trials. Attaman et al.15 evaluated the relation between dietary fats and semen quality in 99 men. They concluded that, higher intake of omega-3 PUFAs was positively correlated with sperm morphology. In another randomized clinical trial, 238 infertile men with idiopathic OAT were randomized to EPA and DHA, 1.84 g day−1 or placebo for 32 weeks.16 A significant improvement in total sperm count and sperm cell density was observed in the omega-3 group. The second mechanism by which omega-3 PUFAs improve semen quality, involves anti-oxidant activity. Oxidative stress is one of the main issues associated with male infertility.
I know other people that tried to eat a lot of omega-3 rich foods, using oils to counteract inflammatory autoimmune diseases, it's just from experience. Fish oil itself is a waste product from fishing industries grinding up the bones and carcasses from processing, they just found a way to dump it onto customers to save money. I personally just don't trust companies too much when it's their job to sell a product.

Commercial diary products are all absolute dog shit because of the filtration process, pasteurization and the shit food and shit living conditions the cows are reared in.
The pasteurization denatures the protein and changes the shape of it, thus changing the initially beneficial function of the milk proteins into unhelpful, and to a common extent, damaging gunk.
Then the filtering of these milk proteins threw the fine mesh breaks these gunk proteins into tiny chunks so you have a "smoother" drinking experience but on the downside is that these big milk proteins are broken down into such a small size that it's easy for the milk protein to be absorbed from the s.intestine and into the blood stream undigested. This happens because of people's shit eating habits themselves mechanically, and chemically due to the shit eating habits weakening the body's ability to digest the protein.
Then the gut lining becomes more pours due to the undigested food reaching the intestines where a population of microflora will eat the undigested food and grow to unwanted proportions and in their growth they will deteriorate the integrity of the gut lining due to their acidic excretions.
This leaky gut phenomenon is horrible since your immune system freaks out when the food protein slips through and is found in the blood and the immune cells thinks the body is under attack so inflammation kicks in to speed up the immune cells movement to swarm the area of "infection." Unfortunately, the proteins will dilute themselves evenly through the body, often getting stuck in small capillaries (which if small enough can permanently dam it and kill it and the surrounding tissue) and the immune cells will carpet bomb anywhere it finds the protein, leading to tissue damage and irritation.
THEN the immune system registers these milk proteins as dangerous proteins and since some of the body will use the milk proteins as building material, any trace of the "enemy milk protein" will be enough evidence for the patrolling immune cells to attack that cell, thus auto-immune symptoms manifest.
However, Raw Organic Dairy Milk is a safe super food that everyone should devour! That is why raw milk is banned in first world countries and this poison is peddled out as "healthy."
tl;dr
Avoid Refined Dairy

Since virtually everything in North America is processed and packed with poisons like sugar and pesticides: it's important to consume lots of water to flush it out (often, when people feel hungry, they're really just thirsty).
It's probably not wise for me to do this but I prefer buying Nestle bottled water. It sits in the open in a lot at Sam's Club or on store shelves in plastic bottles that secrete xenoestrogens (if those are real) but, it doesn't taste like oil or crushed gravel so it's good enough for me to throw in the freezer until it starts forming ice (the colder it is: the better your body will absorb it). Nigga, your body cools itself down with sweating.
Cold water is just taxing and slows down digestion because now all the cells lock up due to the change of temperature and they need a specific temperature to function, and outside of that the colder temperature slows them down.
THEN the adjacent organs and tissues in the stomach also slowed down in efficiency due to proximity to the cold area since temperature dilutes itself in the body. So blood coming in and out of the lungs is slower, liver and kidneys filter and prepare proteins slower, ect.
Your body functions at a very specific temperature and any deviation from that is immediately corrected since EVERYTHING will be slowed down. The body can handle higher temperatures like during a fever since now the body just operates faster, but too high and the body tissues begin to break down.
You got fucking meme'd friend.

Eat fruit, get into strawberries and bananas instead of bars of choc. Oatz of course are a good ballast, also there's some genuinely nice protein shakes out there, I use em cos I can't eat like a hogmiester, you could use them to replace meals.
Don't buy fast food, limit yourself to one instance a week and you'll soon realise why as you feel the sweat begin to form on your forehead and a feeling of slow death creeping up on you.

Exercise bike, chair yoga, walk what you can do comfortably and consistently. Get up every 15-30 mins for a bit of a walk and stretch to get blood pumping.
It's more important to become a health nut with your diet than a lot of cardio. Aim for local, organic food and make your meals as unprocessed as possible. Hit the local farmers market and live off of meat, eggs, leafy greens and fruit.
Eat fruit first before the other food as the sugar is absorbed directly in the stomach as opposed to the small intestine. If the fruit juice is waiting for it's turn to digest on top of your other foods it will begin to ferment and go rancid quickly from simple exposure. This becomes more toxic to your body and is food for the living gut flora in your stomach which are friendly in their small size, but fuck shit up once they begin to grow from the abundant "free fermenting sugar." Their excrement is toxic and acid to your body and will erode gut lining.
Fruit first! Not for desert!
Avoid snacking as much as you can. It fucks up your body's ability to replenish the stores of acid for digestion and without that you will have food pass through that is undigested leading to leaky gut and gut flora that has too high a population and they will toxify and erode where they are.
You can eat the fat too through long-term fasting. Just be sure to drinking salt and minerals with your water and research what you're doing extensively.

Your body will have to warm the water up then it can be absorbed or else it is too upsetting to the integral balance of the body.
If you're overheating, dunk the cold water on your skin since the hot blood is pushed to your skin to cool down with sweat.
Don't do this if you have a fever though, or the body will freak out and double down on heating you up and now you're really fucked. That's why you have tepid baths, baths that are slightly colder than the patient's body temperature and you keep gradually reducing it.

You're just trying to kill a fatty, because you're too impatient to wait for the beetus to work it's magic, aren't you?
>>14711430
Stop eating so fucking much. Exercise is vital to health, but diet is what regulates your weight. Exercise at morbid obesity is more likely to fuck you up than it is to help you, because your body was never designed to take that kind of excess weight - let alone under stress. You're blow out your joints and give yourself a heart attack. To begin with, stick to baby weights (just moving your lumberous appendages themselves is a workout) and low-impact shit like walking, swimming, and cycling. Do not try to run. Seriously, running seems like something that should be instinctual - but most people actually have no idea how to run, and without proper form, you're going to fuck up your ankles and knees even if you weren't overweight - and for very little gain since you'll just end up gassing yourself earlier fighting against your own momentum.
If you want to lose weight, get on a reputable website that allows you to calculate your BMI and figure out what is a roughly appropriate weight for your age, height, gender, etc. Find that weight - and make that your target goal. Then take your target goal weight, and go to a website that allows you to calculate your BMR (how many calories you burn a day just sitting on the couch playing vidya). Fill in the applicable information, except when it comes to weight - plug in your ideal weight rather than your actual weight. That will give you a base metabolic rating - how many calories you would burn a day at your ideal weight.
Then just count your fucking calories (EVERYTHING that goes into your mouth. If you pick your nose and eat the bogey, you better count that fucking half-calorie) and make sure you don't go over ideal weight's calorie total. Once you get half-way to your goal - shave another 200~400kcal off the idea to maintain a deficit, while also increasing your physical activity. Once you are at your ideal, KEEP COUNTING FUCKING CALORIES and only eat what you have to in order to maintain that weight.
It's really quite simple.
t. ex-300lb fatty, now 160lbs for the last three years.
And here's a tip - don't snack. Everytime you "negotiate" with yourself, you weaken your willpower. Eat two meals a day, keep it fucking simple. Personally, I do a 18:6 alternating fast. Whatever I eat, I eat between 3pm and 9pm. Nothing but water on off-hours. It really helps eliminate mindless grazing, fucking up your calorie counts, and it's easier to just have a hard "NO" rather than "Well, maybe, and I'll just work out for an extra 15 mins to make up for it". That's how fatties push the margins and fail. Just have the balls to say no to yourself.
There's supposedly other health benefits to alternating fasting, but it's mostly early testing indicators with small sample sizes and broscience IMO. Needs more time to bake. But just the scheduling and developing the discipline required to stick to it is enough to get the job done in regards to weight loss.

>I always thought those were bad because of the amount of sugar can be high. I know natural sugar is different from the kind in candy, but it's still sugar in the end, isn't it?
The difference between sugar from fruit and eating refined sugar, is in how it's absorbed. When you eat a piece of fruit, you're not just getting sugar - but a whole shit-load of fiber that binds it up until it's fully digested (in some cases, it's never fully digested before leaving the stomach). This means that you don't get that immediate "rush" as your bloodsugar spikes and your body races to keep up. It's a slower, steady release and much easier for your body to process without stress.
Oranges are good for you, but Orange Juice is basically just as bad as taking a vitamin C pill and crushing it up into a can of Mt. Dew. And it's precisely because when you juice the oranges, you remove that vital fiber. Our bodies did not evolve to eat processed sugars in high quantities, but they did evolve to eat fruit because they were a high-energy density food readily available in the environment.
Oxygen is healthy for you too, but a high/pure oxygen environment will fucking kill you. It's the dose that makes the poison.

Kids born in the 40's and 50's to people coming home from Korea & WWII and were trying to make up for lost-fuck time - or slightly older folk who were trying to replace dead kids. Vietnam wasn't a large enough commitment of troops to create a baby boom, so folk born in the later 60's/70's/80's wouldn't be boomers.
Most anyone born in the early 70's wouldn't give much of a shit about videogames - except maybe a few fond memories of arcade cabinets they used to tinker with between bush-hunts at the bar. The kind that used to have ashtrays built in.

Well I was born in early 70's and like you said, I have fond memories of early arcade cabinets (esp. Galaxian and Phoenix) and pinball machines. But at the same time, I also got into computers during the 80's and played a lot of games on pic-related. My interest only grew from there, until the point where 3D became forced into everything (in the beginning I had fun with Quake 1, but that was plenty enough already).
Fun fact: I never once bought any software for my computer. Everything was copied from other kids at school. I also never got documentation of any kind. Someone would just hand me a disk (I had the floppy disk model) and I'd take it home, looking forward to what kind of goodies might be on there. Often 3-5 games could fit on one of those disks, so I'd copy any of them I didn't already have, no matter if the games seemed "bad" at first glance (because I had already found out that a "bad" game can become interesting sometimes). But the interesting part was discovering the game on my own, exploring, and trying to figure things out. This was a lot better than being spoonfed via a manual, game reviews, and so forth. I really got a feeling of accomplishment when I beat a game, or just got to another stage. Plus, it was entirely about going into the unknown, no spoilers or anything like that. I really miss that kind of environment. It really felt like the experience was more genuine and personal.

Well, when you're right, you're right, but the part about the strange method of promotion for the Saturn reminded me of pic related, which made me kind of scratch my head and go, "What the fuck?"

I remember playing the shit out of that game on the C64. Played it later as a flash game in the late 90's for the nostalgia.

Haitani is a fucking monster, but I'd say he and most of the older legendary players are way past their prime, with the exception of Tokido. And even then, Tokido wasn't exactly famous for his reflexes more than his yomi, which is one of the fightan game skills that actually increases with age/experience.
Just see that beasts like Haitani and Daigo (and Momochi, Sako, etc), that are past their 30s, are having a really hard time placing high in tournaments, losing to young kids in their teens like Punk, Knuckledu and MenaRD.

That must be why nations that eat a lot of fish and whale, like the Japanese and Icelanders live so long…

I'm 31 this year and I feel like I have only enhanced my skills as I've grown older. I've single-credit cleared some 50 or so arcade games the last several years and I'm getting close to beating Dimahoo. I don't know when this reaction time thing is going to hit me but I don't feel like it's become a problem yet.
b2071c No.14715322
I think people seriously overestimate the importance of reaction time in action games in general. Is it important for competitive games? Sure. But in singleplayer games knowing what to expect makes a bigger difference than anything.

Yeah, no. It's kinda obvious when things change after 20 years of doing them. It'll happen to you, too.

i fell you brev, im bout to cross into my 30s, used to be an unreal 2004/sf 3rd strike/and guilty gear x2 fag
my hands are a bit slower, to the point i get mad like when you are thinking something that you can no longer make happen
like when you wake up and get mad at how clumsy and slow you are for a few minutes
it got me real down so i joined up on a /fit/ cycle
started boxing again, started eating right again
if you are here in lament, it means you are right where i was
its too easy to get comfy as a /v/lad i get this
i did too, since my cycle i have 100% Gungeon Risk of Rain and Breach, nearing it on Strafe.
You gotta care for your body like you do your mind. And we as a unit, kinda ignore one or both.
So you arent alone, but thats not a collective sigh, it's a hurrah.

Not if you just pointed your newsreader to your ISP's local NNTP server. The alt.binaries newsgroups had more porn than you could realistically download overnight over a 28.8K modem. A whole lot more than you'd find on some obscure web sites that were far away with lots of hops (and packet loss).
And if you didn't want to download in batch, you could just use Netscape, since it had a news client built-in, and would show the pretty graphics.

Nigger, you obviously never had to download your porn from a local BBS (so it wasn't even good shit), having nothing but a text description to go on, and spending 8 hours getting a 30 second highly pixelated clip without audio (at least for me, at the time I only had PC Speaker/squaker) over 2400 baud modem. Only to have your fucking aunt call 10 mins before the download finished because she shouldn't remember the name of the actor who played the sheriff on GunSmoke. Meanwhile you're sitting there cock-in-hand waiting for the payoff, and that call breaks the connection - forcing you to send the next hour and a half constantly redialing to get an open node so you can start the whole process over again.
Yeah, yeah, *70 or add +PCW=2 or whatever to the init string. Shit never worked reliably for me. It would ignore the call waiting properly, but the connection always fucked up anyhow.

I know that feel I used to have lightning quick twitch reflexes helped me a lot when I started boxing irl which made competitive shooters fun to play. Now though it feels like I'm playing with 400ms+ latency and everything is more difficult so I now rely more on strategy than reaction time. Don't have any issues in action/hacknslash/curahzy yet thankfully

It feels kinda concerning that kids have to be taught that buttons even exist and not every screen is a touch screen.
On a related note, I know I'm heard a story of someone who had one of those Amazon microconsole things and brought up Angry Birds on to their TV screen. After doing that their young cousin immediately ran to the screen to play the game by "touching" the TV screen (which doesn't have touch input obviously) instead of using the controller.
