Kind of late to this since he did upload it to amazon prime about a week ago.
Some of his gripes seem weird. I would like to think it's just his AVGN character but they seem genuinely like his own opinions because they seem stupid. His complaining about having a conversation with his dad to save because it took to long. Does he not understand atmosphere? He even compares the pop up to save to castlevania 2, even though games have done a save far from a save spot to help in case you happen to die at this point so you don't have to restart from the last save spot before. He also complains about not having enough space to use fast travel. I might not have played it in a long time, but I think even early on, you can move your character around to gain that needed distance to travel, even before you get the better fast travel move. Says that the camera guy dropping down was annoying and has no purpose, even though he says those pictures appear for the end credits. Again, atmosphere. Not being able to move during an earthquake because it slowed you down. That seems logical but he complains about that. He complains about withdrawing the exact amount of money you think you need from an ATM. Seems logical for the games world. Complains about waiting 3 minutes behind a waterfall or anything that follows logic differently from a normal games perspective (like one time items or choosing a different dialogue option). I just think he lacks patience or didn't really pay attention to the game.
The only one I feel he has valid complaints about is having to revive one-at-a-time if all characters die and refilling their magic and health one-at-a-time. Also, that you have to buy items one-at-a-time. I only ever buy 2-3 items that I want for each character so I never really had much of problem that he seems to have. No mention of having the name you input early in the game appear later as part of the prayer for the final boss seemed like a missed opportunity. Probably didn't plan that out and put in a stupid name instead like shit pickle. I think he did enjoy the game, but I feel he is missing like 20% of the heart of the game to make him understand Earthbound better. He's got the weirdness, the interpretation, and rpg sense, but lacks understanding of it all when you put them all together. He shows enthusiasm for the Ness dream world and the interpretation of the ending and nothing else like his failed director aspirations. He's like if Roger Ebert were a gamer that appreciates the aesthetics but can't put into words why everyone else likes this game. One of his better AVGN but it also shines upon his own ineptitude to understand a game.
