They applied new technology unimaginatively. As a result, it looks far worse than the older technology used innovatively. Live lighting ain't shit if it doesn't keep the aesthetic of the old baked-in lighting or otherwise look better. Scenes were very intentionally set in DS1, and this incompetent remaster makes no note of this fact, with deep, somewhat unreal shadows giving way for a muddy and still not 'real' look.
They're just plopping fire & ray effects and shit down universally, without any attempt to tweak things to emulate the old bake-in with slightly increased fidelity. Shine on surfaces is ignored, making things that had a damp or gleaming look before look matte, like Solaire's big bridge balcony. All they had to do was make a better DS Fix, and somehow they've failed.
So far as I can see, the remaster company is QLOC, going back to when 'Laura' Dale (one of the nightmare face trannies, the Kotaku bong one) first leaked the remaster before its official reveal. This is strange, since QLOC seems to be generally competent just going by the Dark Arisen port. Did a Souls project seriously manage to get the B-team treatment even outside of Fromsoft hands?

I like playing for the technicality. It's not complex, but it's not a complete walk in the park either. The first game and Demon's Souls really challenge you by way of planning and attention. They set the contrast up making it look more colourful, the problem with it is it's too colourful in areas of dark and too dark in places of colour.
Darksouls was always supposed to be dark it had an atmosphere and artstyle that reflected this, remaster washes out the artstyle parts that made the orignal good and replaced them with over contrast shit that neither looks good or complements the surrounding areas.
It looks less washed out, yes, but it also looks like absolute shit because the lighting isn't fixing those areas anymore.

Most of the criticisms ITT are perfectly valid, but as long as they fix the glitches/bugs (chaos door not opening, having to quit and reload the game to make objects appear, wonky connections) I will be super happy with it. Having clusterfuck invasions ruins DS as well as more phantoms for co-op. The omni-directional rolling will make it even easier.
Here is something to consider. CDPR released Witcher enhanced edition, bug fixes, lip synching issues, translation errors all fixed. Some tweaked dialog and NPCs as well general optimization and load time improvements. Also, two small missions that are fully voiced on top of a level editor. This was free for existing owners of the game. They went even further with Witcher 2, new cutscenes such as the impressive intro, some fully CG, new quests, more content, general bug fixes and optimization. This was also free for existing owners.
Bandai have no excuse for this cash grab other than being greedy kikes that would make kikes blush.

A good game, most likely. Its more linear overall, the world is linear, build variety is pretty much STR or DEX as miracles and magic have been nerfed into the ground thanks to PvP faggots, which sucks for PvE players like me. Armour is worthless and only for cosmetics.
I want FromSoft to just make a full on character action game ala DMC or Bayonette at this point, as the Souls games have degenerated more and more into action games yet do so poorly compared to proper ones. The best of the Souls games barring Bloodborne (most anons won't mention that one, though since it had its own thing going and also they can't pirate PS4).
Combat feels the best, story has a proper conclusion (mostly, just have to give the loli the blood and give your slave bride her the eyes), the aesthetic is phenomenal and the references and call-backs to every other Souls game is amazingly fun. It also looks gorgeous and PvP is fun.
However, there's two bosses in the game, one of them optional, both of them in the DLC, which are absolute cheating garbage, especially that scythe slut who is a straight "nuthin personnel" rip of Bloodborne's Maria but made legitimately bull by how fast she is in a Souls game. Bloodborne is all about speed. Dark Souls is about timing and pattern memorization. Scythe slut is all about speed in a game where you can't quick-step but instead can only roll at certain times when you THINK the invisible rot-whore is gonna attack. Also

Ludwig is a more epic battle but back in DS1 they weren't going all in with the big fights and massive orchestral tracks to make you feel like an immense badass. There was more of a feeling of "you're only winning because everyone else is tired, corrupted, broken down etc." and a sense of loss, degradation such as the dragon corpses as well as Artorias himself. The legendary hero who fought the Abyss, just a broken man corrupted by the Dark.

Demon's Souls may have kicked off this fun and it was certainly unique, but the story, the characters, the atmosphere, the music, the boss fights and the combat all feel far superior in every game after it. Actually go back an play it in comparison.

Nameless King, Sister Friede & Slave Knight Gael are hands down some of the best bosses in the entire series including Bloodborne and BB has overall the best bosses. That said, holistic DeS and DkS are better games. I would potentially even include Darkeater Midir but in all honestly too difficult for my taste to qualify as a well-designed boss even for Souls game standards.

It's a better idea than what we got in 3. Which was to just delay the attacks or give them retarded combo's. The bosses in Dark Souls should have remained what they were in DeS. With half their foot in the narrative/story the game had and the other half in the combat.

The level design in 1 is better simply for the Verticle design alone. The Great Hollow and Blight Town are some of the best examples of level design for a reason. 3 repeated the areas 1 already mastered and just did them worse. More troll enemies that do nothing to innovate, more retarded "traps" that are barely that.

nah. They're cheap human figured combo enemies that try and make the Dark Souls combat system seem more in depth than it is. They all revolve around the same method of winning which is to dodgex3 then attack while not getting to greedy. This was still a problem in DS1 but you had multiple methods to deal with enemies beyond that. Like Gwyndolin which had you making use of cover while fighting him or the iron Golem which could be knocked off the platform. The Taurus Demon that could either be brought to a less narrow playing field or drop attacked. Barely any of the bosses in 3 had any of this shit outside of the Giant Dragon which was behind one of the most insanely well guarded secrets since the last DaS game.

I should explain that by "traps" in DS3 I mean enemies just behind a corner or something, unlike DS1 with Sens Fortress which actually did traps more appropriately. My favorite being the rising platform with an obvious blood stain on it which raised you up into spikes. I remember feeling so grateful I payed attention to detailed because I never fell for it. Mainly because Sens Fortress had already reminded me to be on my toes at all times because of the tone it sent which worked into the gameplay.
DS3 feels like 1 long Sens Fortress but in the laziest ways. Like the fucking imps on the walls. It got aggravating to check every ceiling and cranny for those fuckers. To the point where (even though I remember their locations) I can barely replay the levels in 3 because of them almost exclusively. Their just annoying to deal with. Even if you have a spell that can 1 kill them from a distance. There's so many of them it becomes a chore.

What's funny is that Dark Souls 2 is possibly the only Dark Souls that allows you to cosplay a Crusader. They give you the armor and the weapons/shields to do it. And you can cast fear into the hearts of your enemies with the Wrath of God himself. Dark Souls 3 has the helmet, plate and that's it. If you wanted good miracles in that game, good luck leveling that all the way to fucking 60 while your strength/dex/vit/end/attunement are all complete shit.
