Can anyone reccomend me a "modern" dungeon crawler for the PC, in the style of stranger of sword city? Being able to set custom portraits for my characters is optional but deeply appreciated, I just want to go in comfy exploration/grindan adventures, while I build my party to sinergize together well and fight some hard bosses from time to time.

Labyrinths of Touhou 2

It sounds pretty gay but it's actually quite well designed

Right, I forgot to say, I wanted turn based stuff. This one looks interesting though if you're a fan of the genre, the expansions are so cheap I thought they were cosmetics at first.

Damn, that looks really good. I'll check it out, thanks.

I wish there were more dungeon crawlers.

Legend of Grimrock proved people still like them if you remove all the jank.

04699d No.14686196

>>14686066

The problem with Legend of Grimrock is that the dungeons are hand-crafted and deterministic, while also being relatively simple, so playing it more than once almost isn't worth it.

Demise: Ascension is pretty good, especially if you can find people to play it with you. It's round-based like Neverwinter Nights or whatever, but it gives you plenty of time to decide what to do before the round ticks. The interface takes some getting used to but the dungeon design is incredible. It is also deterministic, but unlike Grimrock the levels are fucking huge and there's almost no way you'll remember your way around even if you play the game again. It features hidden level shortcuts, teleport traps and other classic stuff.

Are there any single member dungeon crawlers? The ones I can think of are Arx Fatalis, Ultima Underworld, Brandish and to an extent Xanadu Next.

Orcs and Elves. Originally a phone game, it was given an enhanced NDS port. It's fun and turn based.

The Quest is turned based anon

Movement is unlocked and fluid when you're not in combat.

Yesh, I've already bought 5 though, just waiting for it to arrive. Played all the others except 4, probably my favorite series.

Have you tried the other games by the same developer?

>>14686066

Apparently not enough, as the second game bombed pretty hard and the developers only sort of recovered afterwards. It was a good game though.

Wizardry 8

I can also recommend to you Generation XTH series, first game of which (Code: Hazard) was translated in english. There were also some remakes of it in the title Operation Abyss and Operation Babel, but they are significantly worse than originals. There's also Elminage Gothic.

You also can try firing up emulators, PPSSPP for example, and play Class of Heroes, Elminage Original and Unchained Blades.

DS has Etrian Odyssey, Fighting Fantasy and The Dark Spire

Suggesting to get Vita for Dungeon Travelers II, one of the best games in this kind of genre.

I played the pc version of Elminage Original, did the psp version had something that got lost with the port?

Also those games you mentioned have support for custom portraits? Because probably i might try those.

Well i´ve downloaded and installed Code:Hazard and yes you can customize portraits I miss the Stranger of sword city threads, we had fun shitposting portraits

Any reason of why it bombed? LOG2 improved a lot of things (Except evasion builds).

2cac71 No.14701490

>>14694966

bombed hard? I don't know how.

As far as I remember from my playthrough, it was a great experience, with some improvements over the first, imo. Of course, this is sort of coming from someone that doesn't particularly like or play that many dungeon crawlers.

One thing I hated were the shitty firearms. Worse than bow weapons in every way. Even the ammo was recoverable, unlike bullets. If they had given bullets some sort of advantage over bows, like greatly increased damage at the cost of accuracy and non-recoverable ammunition.
