Which i'm actually somewhat iffy about. Most of them were shit, but I don't like the idea that options are being removed just because they weren't in Halo 3. Even iffier is how they modified all the weapons to act like they did in halo 3, even though halo 3 had sort of shit weapon balance: THe BR had spread, the pistol was ass, the AR couldn't hit shit past 5 feet, etc.
I'd much rather they continue to improve Halo Online as it's own thing, or make it Halo 3 with improvements and some changes that improve it, rather then trying to make it EXACTLY like 3, including the things about 3 that were bad.
Confusingly, they seem fine with keeping changes/improvements to forge though.

Shit's really enjoyable until you start running into BR spawn game modes. 11 years later and that shit still completely breaks the flow and balance of the game. It's only made worse now that we can all mouse aim. The weapon balance was otherwise pretty good and weapons fell into their own little niches. Since BR spawns were comparatively scarce, the other weapons kept players mobile and always on the lookout for something a little better or something to suit the situation they were in. Moving between cover was important, skirmishes would occur across all parts of the maps, even close quarters fights happened in the more open areas. Even dual wielding saw good use because you could create new and interesting weapon combinations.
Then BR spawns come and fuck that all up, slowing the pace of the game to a crawl and turning every part of the map into a fucking no-man's land. The damage at any range is ridiculous, it made exposing yourself even for a brief moment suicide, things like turret placements became useless, and the viable weapon sandbox effectively dwindles to consist only of the BR, the two snipers, and the rocket launcher. Even vehicle combat suffers since you take pretty sizable damage, even when the armor is hit. Unless you're in a tank, this makes the only way to play to camp the highest ground with the most cover and pick at any idiot foolish enough to reveal themselves.
The good news is that not every server runs BR starts, but there are people to this day that think this weapon is the epitome of skill and should be the only way to play.

I don't understand. The thing is stupid easy to use. The game isn't even fast like Quake or Tribes and it doesn't have any movement tech like UT. Everything is slow enough as it is and the real fun in the standard modes is how frantic things can get between vehicle combat, looking for new weapons, and making use of all kinds of terrain/cover. BR starts serves only to slow things to a near-standstill. The game becomes entirely one-dimensional- not that it was exactly deep before that, but at least some chaos and varying encounters to keep things fun. Why should you ever get in a Warthog, Ghost, Banshee, or Mongoose or pick up the shotgun, energy sword, or any of the non-power weapons when every player on the map is going to tear you a new asshole from wherever they happen to be standing?

Could be worse, my time poking around Halo 2's Project cartographer makes me regret talking to the devs, the guy who runs their servers is a bit of a douchebag. all the servers are set up so the weapons on map are no duals. so no plasma rifles, needlers, SMGS or Plasma pistols. The guy seems really like that one kid who just wanted to play MLG customs constantly.
But yeah back to the HUD thing, when I played H2 recently and even looking at video of H3, when shot the HUD kinda lights up to give a indication of where the bullets are coming from. H:O seems to lack this. and when shields are popped you can't see any type of visual representation, instead it's purely audio cues

You know, if there's anywhere that "open world procedurally generated" would work as a game, it's on a Banks Orbital (halo) like this. I would actually like to see a game that takes place on one, scaled to appropriate size. Not sure what kind of game. It could basically be anything. Hell, a single ring shared across the entire world's multiplayer servers would be enough to satisfy space and exploration for its entire playerbase, whatever kind of game it is. It could even be a "the story from Ringworld" knock off where the civilization built the ring collapsed and now it's warring pre-industrial factions who think "this is just how the world is." They're fighting over the last working machinery and the very scant advanced resources available on the ring (because there aren't any geological processes or metal deposits in the soil–since the whole thing was built to a specific design–a "stone-age" civilization can only rise so far). You'd have to balance building new settlements/weapons/defenses with 1. a hard limit to your non-food supplies and 2. needing to save those materials to repair the advanced machinery that keeps the ring stable. Sort of like an RTS.
Or even just an exploration RPG. Meeting characters, having adventures, that sort of shit. Fun as fuck. I remember reading once that before Bungie was bought by Microsoft, they had thought to make Halo a nearly "open world" game (exploring the ring, finding Forerunner ruins, etc.). This was back when it was going to be a Mac exclusive, so it'd be the earliest press releases.

You can get a virtual audio cable and use that as an input, or hook that up to some kind of tertiary program and use that as your mic input, set in the game's audio settings. Something like Voice Meeter is good because it lets you control the listen and output volumes separately and on the fly, and you can tie multiple inputs to one output if you need to. My internet is fine. It's not an issue of lag. Just that the fundamentals of combat and the awkward slow floaty movement makes for some awful shooter gameplay. I knew it was pretty bad as I played it back in the day a lot but I didn't recall it being this terrible of a shooter. I guess it doesn't translate to mouse aim very well.
Aiming down sights is a particularly weird mechanic. It feels out of place in what is trying to be an arena shooter and correct me if I'm wrong it makes your shots ridiculously more accurate rather than just enhancing your vision. The snipers crosshair is really weird for some reason, and the crosshairs in general are very low res and don't seem to match up very well with where your bullets are landing. Maybe I'm just shit, but I think I've played shooters for long enough to know when that's the case.

In halo, the weapons are always shouldered, ADS was added later, and all the zoom in is is the integrated systems in the weapon link to the MJOLNIR armor to create the magnification levels.
Spread while scoped in H2-Reach is the same as if you weren't. Pacing shots with FA weapons does help and in the case of Plasma Rifles, you get more accurate shots if you alternate fire
