Haven't touched halo since 3 and I tried this out yesterday. I remember the game being a lot better than it actually was. The movement is unbelievably sluggish, melee is a gimmick, the floaty jumping is awkward, and the user interface is ridiculously obnoxious. Why was this ever considered a competitive shooter?

When I was a teenager I made some game mode called monster trucks (probably copied it from someone else). Everyone had vehicles and were locked into the end of a map and had to knock each other off the ledge until the last man standing. Kind of gimmicky but good fun with some friends. Forge mode/custom games in Halo 3 was some of the most fun I've ever had in video games. It's a fucking shame no newer titles ever implement features like it.

These are the maps I could find and get working. Most from http://halovault.org/. I tested them and the only ones that seem worth even trying are Duck Hunt, Jenga, Sharks, and maybe ghost busters. The rest are either shit, unbalanced, or just too simple in design. Seems like there were a decent number of maps before the 0.6 update that are now all broken and don't work, so maybe they'll get updated and there will be an actual selection of custom games. For now nothing currently available even scratches the surface of some of the game modes and maps that Halo 3 had back in the day. Would be amazing if they could be directly ported somehow, but I doubt it's possible.

AAA companies hate two things:

I think I played on some servers that had those. Unfortunately after play testing with some friends and on various servers it seems like a lot of the maps and custom game modes don't work very well because the physics of the game is slightly different. Like you jump higher and float around quite a bit more it feels, which makes shit like jenga an even bigger clusterfuck than it originally was.
