b17491 No.14651707
Hey gang, wanna rev up one of these threads and get some discussion going about your favorite /mon/ games or ones you've heard of.
>What the fuck is a /mon/ game?
Basically any game that involves collecting and/or battling various creatures, much like Pokémon or Digimon. There seemed to be a boom of them surrounding the former's debut, but who knows? Maybe there were some before its time.
>What is there to talk about?
A lot of things, really. For starters, my intention is to bring together Pokémon and Digimon discussion into one thread, but also introduce more obscure franchises like Keitai Denju Telefang and Jade Coccoon. I'm also all for building up more recognition for things like Fighting Foodons/Bistro Recipe, which is a series about turning your cooking into monsters that fight for you. Other notable mentions are Medabots and Monster Rancher.
>What if I'd rather have separate threads for Digimon and Pokémon anyway?
That's fine. I'm not forcing anyone to participate; just putting this out there to bring it to the attention of anyone that may be interested. I also host a small board that doesn't get much traffic, so if you can give it your time, I'm hopeful it'll catch on.
Now with the intro out of the way, I've got some questions you can answer to stimulate some conversation;
>Favorite monster from any series? Can choose more than one.
>Favorite franchise?
>Describe a /mon/ game if you can't remember its name.
>Turn-based or action gameplay?
>Favorite type/element in a series (Fire, Water, etc.)?
>If you wanted a certain item from any series, what would it be?
>Favorite human character from any series? Again, more than one.
>Would Mega Man Battle Network count as a /mon/ game?

I think the latest ones are on 3DS. There's the regular Medarot 9, then the one where they went the route of an all-female cast. There was also a time they used an ugly design style on the GBA.

I wish Medabots was a bigger thing. Would be cool to see a Medabot game that played like Armored Core or something.

>What do they even play like?
Not entirely sure. The all-girls one looks like it's third-person action with a bit of strategy. Could be similar to Kingdom Hearts. As for Shingata, I have no fucking clue. All the screenshots make it look like some sort of… phone game RPG. I mean, there's an overworld and such.
>I wish Medabots was a bigger thing.
Me too, man. Unfortunately LBX is the one in charge of the collectible robots sub-genre.

I liked Fungus and its evos in Telefang 1, strelo/k/ dragon in Digimon and Empoleon in Pokemon.
>Favorite franchise?
Don't have particular favorite.
All of them have small things that grind my gears.
>Turn-based or action gameplay?
Both are fine.
>Favorite type/element in a series (Fire, Water, etc.)?
Ice in Pokemon
Laser/Metal in Digimon
Grassland in Telefang
Fire in Jade Cocoon.
>Would Mega Man Battle Network count as a /mon/ game?
No. I remember that only one had small gameplay mechanics related to catching viruses for EX chips of their skills.
It was 3, if I remember it right.

Latias from Pokemon. She's pretty adorable and stars in my favorite of the Pokemon movies. But what really sealed the deal were those real time flying segments in Alpha Sapphire. Especially at night time with calm music playing in the background. (She'd probably make for the best pet ever imo)
>Turn-based or action gameplay?
Action. Pokemon battles were way more fun and exciting in that Pokken fighting game than any of the turn-based games. (Turn-based stuff is still ok imo tho)

Yessir, a Joker game and also two remakes for the original GBC. They apparently increased field size to 4 as well as adding 'Uber' monsters which are worth 4 slots.
As far as I can tell we only have DQM2 3DS fan patched, but I was able to ad hoc my way through Joker Professional so I dont think I'll need to know whats going on to wing it through the remakes.

Ogyo first showed up in Monster Rancher 4 and were part of a trifecta of monsters that could add "feminine" traits to monsters along with Pixies and Mocchi.
It irritates me to no end that there is next to no art of a Mocchi and her male rancher. Especially with a large plot point in Rancher 4 having to do with a mocchi that loved her rancher so much she was willing to die for him

/agdg/ here. I'm working on a game that leans on the /mon/ stuff a bit. It's a turn based RPG, but I'm experimenting with a lot of unique mechanics with health and magic to make battles a bit more interesting than "make health be zero". I can go into detail if anyone's interested. Need to do a proper pitch since I hadn't gotten around to it yet.

Huh, a third Siralim game? I'd heard there was a sequel, but a third one is news to me.
I played the original years ago. The game itself was great, but the dev was constantly changing various things around (nerfs, buffs, completely changing monster abilities), which doesn't really go well with a game where you can sink weeks or months into powering up a single monster. No idea how it goes these days, though.
