6d7bee No.14651523

So lately i've been given a mean hankering for some comfy lifesim vidya. So i took my weed ridden ghost town cart and rest it to start the New leaf experience over again. I'm enjoying it far more than Pocket Camp but still really hope those rumours of a Switch game this Christmas are true.

What are you hoping to see in the new console release in the series? Personally i want to see:

>Not just one town but a series of towns connected along a coastline or around a forest. You can ride a train, bus or a moped to the other towns and townsfolk can move around them.

>Friends on your friends list can choose to have each others town uploaded online so another town on your circuit of towns will be theirs and update when they connect.

>Or a single large online town where you can play online or locally with friends

>More complex towns and design choices. More urban or countryside options based on player tastes

>Secrets and addons to the towns e.g: getting to the islands and getting flippers means accessing an island off the beach you cannot usually access for rare items or unlock a new area you can then build a bridge to to expand your town

>House layouts instead of one big room

>Money making options like farming or designing clothes sold in other players games by the able sisters

What do you want?

Question: Never played much of this series before. Only the GameCube one, but that one doesn't count. I was a kid back then, rented it for week from BlockBuster, but didn't have a big memory card and couldn't save anything. I kept having to replay the same first day over and over again……

A-anyways, my question is that can I just skip all the games that don't have Isabelle? I'm probably just get one or two AC games and she seems to be the face of the series now. Even popular enough to appear in Mario Kart as the series' representative instead of the Villager.

The 3DS one is generally regarded as the best one, but not without it's downsides. There's a bit more to do in this one than the other ones, but the writing is pretty braindead, as the animals love talking about nothing more than food, and grinding for shekels was made way too easy. Really, personally, I see the Wii and DS ones as just inferior versions of the 3DS one, while the N64/GC one is different in some ways.

It's not even if, it's a when and it'll probably be released a few months after Smash and slightly before whatever sports spinoff they release involving Mario, I'm guessing it'll be something stupid like football.

>The 3DS one is generally regarded as the best one

I'd say it's the one with the most direction, and that can go a long way. Compare with Magician's Quest/Enchanted Folk/Tongari Boushi. It takes the Animal Crossing format and gives the game an actual theme and suddenly it has more character than most of the Animal Crossing games. New Leaf touched on this by giving a more town management direction rather than a random villager in random town.

>as the animals love talking about nothing more than food

A side note, I've often seen this blamed on Treehouse localization around here, but the past few weeks I've been playing it in nip and it's like that in the original too, unfortunately.

It'd be a pain in the ass to get, probably, due to having to dig through media create sales, that's always a pain. Seems like that's what happened with New Leaf, at least.

My statistics-autism got to me, so I decided to throw this together.

Seems like New Leaf gave the 3DS a nice bump, whereas Welcome Amiibo was insignificant. Not surprising though, since Welcome Amiibo was just a repack of the free DLC.

Smash 3DS had amazing sales, but didn't push the console, so my theory seemed right. Smash Wii U gave the Wii U a bump, but that also coincided with the holidays. And really, any release gave the Wii U a bump, even Bayonetta and fucking Captain Toad.

Pics related, I made graphs with notes. Sorry it it's hard to follow along with. Highlighted on the graphs are when each game launched.

Same with the DS, where Wild World sold 11.75 million, only behind 3 gens of Pokemon, 2 Brain Age games, Nintendogs, Mario Kart and NSMB.

>The first Animal Crossing was fun because it was a bit disconnected from city life.

While I agree because playing in a small rural village is what made the series fun and memorable, remember that the museum and Nook's store were part of the village until being moved into Main Street. Would you keep those in a separated city or downtown, or would you put them back into the village? I haven't touched NL in a while, so I can't decide if Re-tail was better suited for the village in place of Nook's store (which was moved to Main Street) or vice versa.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_Wii_video_games

City Folk wasn't as well received as other AC games. It was also too similar to Wild World. It only sold 4.32 million units which isn't terrible, but being the #19 sold game isn't as noticeable as other games that sold more. (Most of the top selling games were Wii Sports, Wii Play, and other Wii wagglan games.) Looking at the list, I also realized how far down I had to go to find a Pokemon game. (Battle Revolution is #47) Usually at least 1 Pokemon game on a Nintendo console will make it into the top 10 selling games on that console. (For handheld consoles, every main series game will be in the top 10.)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_Wii_U_video_games

Then again Pokken didn't sell much on the Wii U being #15, though this might be partially attributed to selling the game so late in the Wii U's lifespan considering how poor Wii U sales were. Pokemon (main series) games on the handheld consoles have always driven sales no matter when they release, but not so much for the spin-offs and home console games.

>the museum and Nook's store were part of the village until being moved into Main Street. Would you keep those in a separated city or downtown, or would you put them back into the village?

I always saw the beginning of Nook's store and the branch Museum as an offshoot of what a bigger city would have. Lots of small towns have a run down shop or a gas station and some sort of small culture building.

The upper tiers of the store, where it becomes a bigger chain store Nookway and a Department store, Nookington's is where it seems like they drop the theme of "small town store" for the sake of the progression of the store.

The bigger issue with trying to fold the Museum and all the assorted shops back into a small village is that, unless they combined shops significantly, it would be too packed with all the shit they've added to the "city" portion of each game hats, shoes & socks, plant store, etc so getting rid of it at this point isn't really an option.

Doing that would open a whole different set of issues because almost no village towns really have giant multi-tiered stores with variety but at that point it would be more important to maintain the fun of the game over small thematic issues.

If I had to make a choice to fit the theme I think Re-tail as a mom and pop pawn shop fits better than the Nook store at this point.

Rate my suggestions for the series

>Allow the player in the beginning to choose a biome for their town which affects what plants grow and the weather throughout the year (For example, one person could choose a tiaga village where it's snowy for all but the summer, while another chooses a beachside village that rarely snows).

>LAN support

>Town Mayor can choose what holidays are celebrated and what aren't, allowing for US players to experience Japanese holidays and vice bersa, and allowing for obscure and unique holidays to be added

>Nocturnal Villagers (Such as Bats, Crabs, or Geckos) that do their activities at night instead of the day, giving players who play at night villagers to interact with

>Mayors can designate how many villagers they want in their village, as well as designate housing zones they can move into

Really though I can only think of ways to expand New Leaf, that game is about as perfect as Animal Crossing can be. You can refine it but the base formula is about as good as it can get.

LAN support should still be standard anyway because it's completely retarded to need to connect to a server in Canada to play with somebody sitting on the couch next to you. Of course it's less retardation and more a need to control by the hardware devs and their paid online.

>choose what holidays are celebrated and what aren't

Why not just have Holiday sets? That works just as well without being tied to a region.

>>Mayors can designate how many villagers they want in their village, as well as designate housing zones they can move into

I'm more on board with designated housing zones as that would solve the first problem for most people.

It is infuriating to cultivate a decent number of out-of-town fruit trees and have some asshole bear drop a house right on top of it.

>You can refine it but the base formula is about as good as it can get.

Currently the problem is that they aren't refining the formula so much as they've tacked on a "city zone" and are slowly moving things there/adding things that don't fit in a village life simulator.

It's always supposed to have been a comfy game where you don't really have to do anything but there are activities.

It seems like as the series goes on they're trying to create some sort of gameplay focus and progression rather than letting it be.

I also like this. I've never been a city planner/organizer, but I was pissed when I had someone move in front of one of the bridges. It made walking around a huge pain.

>Nocturnal Villagers

It would be nice to have more to do at night. I'm generally a night person myself, so having all the villagers asleep was annoying. I'm too anal about keeping the time right so I never wanted to change the time so the villagers would be awake. This might upset players that don't play as much late at night or early morning, but I personally don't care.

>the game already had so little to do and they continued to remove even more content somehow

What are you talking about? Other than maybe the island until it was added back in NL, each release added content, even if it wasn't always noticeable or significant. It's just that the added content came with the cost of removing the game's atmosphere with the dumbed down dialogue in each subsequent release. It's why the original still gets a lot of praise and recommendation to play despite NL having the best multiplayer and more to do within the village. (And that will get fucked once 3DS online goes down unless Wiimmfi adds 3DS/WiiU support.)

The dialogue is probably NL's biggest criticism. NL is mostly praised for content and not much else. Even with the new additions I can still play the Gamecube version longer than NL because I get more immersed in it. NL just seemed to add content with little regard to much else.

> minigames

> more stuff to do at night

> more in-depth house customization

these are the biggest things I need to see in AC Switch.

It's not a lot, but it's something. (I'd stick to the first link unless you're desperate for images and don't mind getting a little risque.)

>Have I been looking in the wrong places?

People tend to draw images of the villagers they've had, which is maybe an average of 10 out of 80 or so. Villagers will usually get less fanart than common characters like Isabelle, Able Sisters, or so on unless furries love to jerk off to certain popular characters. (Whitney being one of them.) I prefer Freya.

I remember someone found an AC house whose basement had a chair, a box of tissues on a small table to the side of it and it all faced a picture of Reggie's face.

Interesting data graphs Anon, nice work.

I got a a theory for the lack of 3DS sales for Smash, people weren't buying the existing models because the were waiting to purchase the N3DS models instead, I do remember the N3DS being announced in the same Japanese Direct that revealed Shulk.

We must go back to the TRUE origins of Whacking Day, beating up the Irish instead.
