I got my stick through Kijiji. I had to drive about an hour each way, but in total I saved close to $100 in Canuck bux for a mint condition stick. Even if that hadn't been there, the game stores in my town had a handful to choose from, and the local FGC definitely had one or two spares, although I didn't know how to contact them at the time.

The underlying mechanisms are the same (stick pushes switches which behave similarly to keyboard switches), but the way in which you interact with them is very different. A 623 motion on stick is pretty easy, but requires very precise timing and holding down 26 due to the lack of a 3 direction.

Some fighting games have exploits with hitbox-style controllers, and some tourneys won't allow them, but that's usually the exception.

Ironically the original controllers used are cheaper, though proper prices are hard to gauge because of knock-offs being sold as officials. The original controllers new are obviously more, but I don't know anyone paying over $150 for them new. Even competitivefags just buy used controllers and repair them.

That's a themed classic controller. It won't work on a Gamecube because it has to be plugged into a Wii Remote or a USB adapter, but it should work for Nintendont.
