DoW3 was a shit show mechanically, as well with the obvious political bullshit and lore breaking stuff that showed absolutely no respect for 40k. Yes, DoW2 got very, very stupid with some of its abilities, at least in Retribution, and did some very stupid things with the lore as well. However, it was never quite as in your face as DoW3 was about it. They were either high level abilities that I think were only in the campaign, or the stupid armor and item descriptions that when you think about it don't make sense; for example the jump pack they said they got from the sisters of battle. I am cautiously optimistic about MW5: Mercs because although MWO was Jewed to Israel and back, if they make a single-player campaign game, they won't be able to sell $500 Mad Cat skins, not to mention they already have all the Mech assets modelled and ready. Half the issue I had with playing MWO was that the rate at which new Mechs came out was fucking glacial because they focused way too much on making stupid fucking skins for whales. Not just new Mechs, come to think of it, everything suffered; the strategic map mode was dead in the water on release because of that as well, spent too much time making skins and too little time polishing that feature. It's a damned shame because the core gameplay is actually fairly good, certainly better than MW4.

I'm in a bit of a split mind on the new battletech.

On one hand, space nerd girl and the like makes me want to avoid the game like a lepper colony, the insane focus on the ethnic acenstry of the characters which is not only relevant to the story as far as I can tell, but modern countries that in universe haven't been around for nearly a thousand years. It makes as much sense as trying to divide brittons into normans, saxons and picts.

On the other hand, they have the people who created the old board game and lore writing their story. Even if they made up some new place for no fucking reason.

And sure, Canopus being a matriarchy is lore friendly, just keep in mind they are also supposed to be extremely hedonistic and one of the few places in the inner sphere that has legal slavery. A so keep in mind the goodguys are pro treating humans as property.

Actually, BattleTech does go fairly deep into describing the constituent ethnicities and mother nations of the various inhabitants, but it approaches it in a realistic way and not in a "muh representation" way. There's no real communists in battletech, the closest you might get is the clans, but while they run planned economies, they are also as far from treating anyone equally as you can get, being a society divided into casts you are born into and ruled by warriors who rise through the ranks based on merit. It's an indie studio working with some of the original 7th Level dev team members. Any oldtime 40k fan knows the bluepills were serious and the redpills were accidentally. The boosters don't affect the amount of GP gained per mission, and the most effective way of farming that shit is bounty hunter missions. GP is what you ultimately need to upgrade shit not the plastics and the plastic quality goes up as you progress, meaning plastics in later missions give more XP per unit than the crap you find at the start of the game. Not to mention Boosters are used for the entire room, meaning if one person uses it the entire group gets the benefit.
