Why is it that one of the worst Mario Kart games has to get all the modding attention? I know that DS gets some too, but I would like to see custom Mario Kart DD tracks instead of all the undeserved content Wii gets. Would be fun as fuck, it's in my opinion the best Mario Kart after DS.

It is. It's faggots just playing Funky on the Bowser Bike. Also DD has fun jumpy physics and the RNG is not broken as shit. Also LAN lets you play up to 16 people on co-op driving or 8 in regular driving.

Why won't modders give it a try? You can emulate a LAN through the internet thanks to Dolphin magic and the untapped potential the game has is immense and the game is ironically more competitive than the other Mario Kart games. At least DS has a somewhat decent modding community, though. Not as big as Wii, but still.

I don't know. I mean, I really like Double Dash myself (though I don't get a chance to play much it anymore), but some friends and I would swear that mashing the item button during the roulette had a higher chance of giving you comparatively better items than normal, even in the upper placements. I don't mean like "lightning in first" but more stuff that wasn't just green shells and banana peels if you'd already been doing well.

It's weird looking back at DD, playing it back in the day it didn't feel as good as MK64 in some aspects (battle stages felt kinda crap except Pipe Plaza), no Quick Race or coins from Super Circuit. The 2 man karts did give more replayability with experimenting with different character combos but did seem a little controversial with locking familiar MK items like triple red/green shells or Gold Mushroom behind to a pair or characters (the Koopa's/Toads respectively), while the new co-op mode was REALLY good and the it had lots of nice stages and included more ones with traffic was really nice.
Basically at the time NEARLY 15 YEARS AGO it seemed like DD style 2 man karts was going to be future and hopefully return in a better refined sequel . . . which didn't happen when MKDS was unveiled at E3 2004 . . . and then seemed like maybe they going to bring it back for a console sequel, you know for easy local co-op play and stuff . . . then E3 2007 rolled around showing MK Wii also not bringing it back. While at the same time certain MKDD elements like it's unique items (Giant Bowser Shell, DK Banana) or things like the Mix Cup still haven't returned.
That's why I'm pissed off at the most unique MK still hasn't gotten a proper sequel especially when they had the perfect opportunity to do it with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, retain the MK8 tracks/DLC tracks and new (proper) battle mode tracks, then remove the single man karts and replace them with DD style karts while also having easy local 2 player co-op with the Switch included Joy-Con straight out of box. That would have been a massive incentive for me to buy it instead of just a refined gameplay wise MK8 it ended up being.

The gamecube had LAN mode and so does Dolphin. You just need Hamachi or any other kind of online LAN emulator in order to play online. It's pretty doable if you put enough time and effort into it. You can only play in 8 player max servers though, so we would need a way to create a "Master Server" that lets us get into other game servers.

It might've been a fad for it's time. But I'd argue it had the best multiplayer out of any Mario Kart. As with any GameCube game, local multiplayer at that time was fantastic. All they needed to do was add more. More characters, more karts, more items, more modes, more tracks, etc. And maybe give the 2nd player on the back of the kart more to do while the other person drives. Could you imagine how cuh-ray-zee things could get if they went back to Double Dash mechanics but also kept the gliders and zero-g of Mario Kart 8? Shit, I just want more fun multiplayer games back. Mario Party, Mario Kart, Mario Baseball, Star Fox Assault's Multiplayer but better, fun Smash Bros, F-Zero. Nintendo should just make a local multiplayer mini-game collection, but knowing them it'd probably end up like 1, 2, Switch. Nintendo Land could've been a step in the right direction.

Double Dash is the best racing game ever created, it is superior in all regards. Prove me wrong. Pro-Tip: You Can't.
I wish Nintendo would go back to making ridiculously good Mario spin-offs again. Mario Baseball, Mario Tennis, Mario Strikers. Mario Sports Mix could've been waaay better had they included all the GameCube sports games or something similar into one package. Mario Party has always been kind odd to me, I've never liked it particularly all that much, but I feel it has potential to be fantastic.
And nothing can beat the music for the GameCube spin-offs.

Any casual game can be taken super competitively with the right people. It's autistic sure, but it's fun. Even simple games such as Rock, Paper, Scissors / Uno / Pong / etc. Simple games are often the easiest to make competitive actually, as it's easy to grasp and everyone can have an edge. Being can drunk can help and make it more cuh-ray-zee, but regardless it's a wild time. Or maybe I just love Double Dash and those GameCube games because it brings back fond memories of friends.

What the other anon said. You'd need to have access to either a tool that emulates the developer toolkit for that game, or hope that the 3D models are just swappable with ease like in MKWii. It seems that Nintendo just went lazier than usual with their Wii titles and onward, plus you need to factor in that the more audience a game has, the more likely someone with the right skills, time and autism can cook up something with it.
See if you can come up with anything, if you really want that game modded so much. I heard a good way of doing this is trying to see if there's any other game using the same engine or a similar structure, then seeing if that game is any easier to modify or if there's dev tools already available.

CTR has it's place, but I can't prefer it over the GameCube games. The Mario games have a certain level of charm, quality, and legitness that surpasses Crash. Mario Baseball can be hype as fuck. They need to bring it back and add more CUH-RAY-ZEE elements. Or like what people will think they'll do with Mario Kart, they could Smash Bros the fuck out of every series.

Seems to be case for MK games from DS onwards you can dodge with a very well timed boost mushroom.
Another important feature unique to MK DS/7 is that you can see what items your opponents have on the touch screen giving you greater warning to slow down to 2nd to avoid it being launched at you.

You can't compare the two IPs, because on the whole, the Mario brand was much more profitable and it lent itself to a much higher degree of experimentation, whereas Crash was developed by some people and had to be reinvented both because the original owners lost the use of their own IP and because every time it got reassigned they had to reinvent the formula to make sure that their Crash would be The Crash. Besides, CTR was heavily made by people who actually cared about their vidya enough that they studied Diddy Kong Racing extensively to produce a spiritual successor, whereas most of the later titles barring shit like Twinsanity are just shoddy projects with no direction.

Also liked the Bowser family's BIG SHELL (and was especially funny if it got dropped on to the track making a giant stationary hazard) but used one of them with a opposite weight combo of either Diddy/DK for their GIANT BANANA for defense (and basically blocking parts of tracks like Wario Coliseum) while also having the option to switch from a lightweight to heavyweight for the choice of good acceleration and higher top speed.
I remember a time on Baby Park having a opponents BIG SHELL cruising parallel to me at the same speed (which was strange because I think it should have been moving much faster), felt quite eerie having a massive hazard just traveling alongside me.
>>14658847
The only gameplay improvement I could think of for a DD sequel is the jump/bunny hop needs to return, there's something satisfying about jumping over little gaps in stages like Sherbet Land (N64) or Bowser Castle (DS). The only issue I can see is Nintendo refuses to make a truly perfect MK as every game seems to suffer from two steps forward, one step back in terms of features.

Truth be told if I want Double Dash back, I want it as Mario Kart 99 (it is Mario Kart 9, don't judge the extra 9). Also didn't Mario Kart Wii have an adventure mode planned? That could be fun for unlockables. Also can we keep Link but have Zelda too, Inkling and Octoling, and add Fox and Falco from Star Fox with unique specials? Link and Zelda can use a bow which snipes enemies with rapid fire arrows. Inkling and Octoling can use Tenta-missiles which fires up to 5 homing missiles that leave ink slicks if they miss. Fox and Falco will either have smart bomb, reflector, or call in air support and cheat. I'll go for reflector which deflects shells and hazards back to who made them.
