Is the story any good? I had it for a while and been thinking about playing it, but the gameplay is so much shit that it makes me wonder whether it's worth it.

I played the game myself for a while although can't remember much as it was a while ago and the combat seemed too complex for a game that wasn't really that interesting for me so I dropped it. That's why I asked about the story. If it's just a game with an autistically complex combat system but other than that boring I don't think I want to bother with it.

It's a good game but the problem is that it doesn't even explain 30% of it's mechanics (its biggest flaw) and on a surface level it presents itself as a run of the mill JRPG.

You can play it like you'd normally play any other tactics JRPG and you'd get somewhere but you'll hit a roadblock at some point and you won't be able to progress because you don't know shit of what you're doing and trying to learn the mechanics that late is useless and grinding is just going to compound the problem.

If you want to play it, look for a walkthrough on YT and read a bit on the wiki.

Back then, Squeenix really took the time and effort to appeal to the Western audience, this was one of those three projects, they had very good voice actors, but goddamn, this has the opposite of all the problems FF13 had, doesn't explain shit to you.
