Well it remains to be seen how the lawsuit will progress between Paul Reiche/Ford and Stardock. The last update I can find was February showing that the lawsuit is still ongoing.

Though Accolade->Atari were given publishing rights to Star Control 1 & 2, so Stardock purchasing those rights from Atari means that they can freely sell the software on Steam or wherever so long as the original contract has no limitations. We'll find out more as news is updated.

Stardock are in the shit for the Ashes Escalation fuckup but they're still pushing space games, so give them that and they generally make games that have decent gameplay. I'm optimistic that they do some good here.
