ITT: Games where there's a bunch of shit to collect throughout the game. Not thinking so much in terms of 3D platformers or collectathons like Banjo-Kazooie, but more along the lines of Mega Man Battle Network where you're trying to amass every kind of chip, or Aria of Sorrow where you're trying to get every enemy soul or piece of unique equipment.

Hard mode: Games with an obscured list of all the collectibles that you fill out as you go (Pokedex, chip library, etc.)

Dante Must Die mode: Games where the rarity of the collectible is tied to how involved the process is to get it. Like having specific challenges or secret sidequests dedicated to specific collectibles, and your reward for understanding the mechanics, mastering the games' systems, or thinking outside the box is the highest level of collectible.

Animal Crossing has the furniture catalog, though it doesn't really function as a checklist.

Also what bums me is that ACNL removed the ability to storage Gyroids with the cafe guy. Fucking shitty.

Vitrual On mixed with collect'an. Might be DmD mode since it allows you to start over on a New Game+ infinitely (some things are only unlocked after a couple play throughs), but you tell me.

ARIA OF SORROW WAS SHIT

SHIT

SOTN HAD BETTER CONTENT

f64646 No.14594862

Yomawari games let you collect a bunch of crap the lolis consider as treasure. They mostly serve as a reason to explore the town and see all optional hallucinations and ghosts.

714c2d No.14594979

>>14593821

>>14594805

What always bothered me is how consistent SOTN is with its art, music and graphics and how disjointed AOS is by comparison.

>hauntingly beautiful gothic art

>some anime shonen story with power levels and virgin jokes

>upbeat low-key music right outta first party nintendo game

Gameplay was alright, but it all just didn't come together.

>see a webm of Yomawari gameplay

>excited because it seemed to show the loli get slaughtered by a non-scripted demon attack

>pirate game

>turns out it's a puzzle game where you avoid demons rather than survival horror where demons organically roam the town in search of people to kill

>hauntingly beautiful gothic art

I only played AoS on an emulator, I'm not sure if the crap backlighting of the GBA would have helped but everything seemed very washed out when I played it, and stuff like the Hrunting though cool looked a bit silly, why did a weapon with an icon of a sword dripping with green have a sprite with a purple flame?

bf1111 No.14595017

>>14594979

>>14594805

Okay that's fine but it let me get autistic about collecting monster souls and that's all I really wanted from it. I agree about the lack of cohesion in the assets though, that was a serious issue with all three GBAvania games to me.

f64646 No.14595258

>>14594991

The ghosts are fairly fixed and predictable yes, but more so in the first than in the second. In the first you pretty much run away from all of them except a few which react to light, the second mixes it up more with different strategies to adopt.

But yes, it is very scripted, I'm not going to deny that.

When it comes to GBA emulation you need to fuck around with color profiles/shaders for each game individually as they all used different tricks to compensate jewtendo toy's terrible screen.

Most people unassumingly play with whatever the default is, which is usually washed out and/or oversaturated shit.
