The free building doesn't start until Terra Incognita, which carries over your recipes you unlocked in the main game. There are also some nice bonuses after you complete the challenges. Which the things in those kinda break the game if you don't mind building.

So there's a couple things to note in Terra.

Pretty much any building you make on your home island is like building a room in your base. Effects aren't restricted to share stone area. It might not tell you what room you made but it will affect you. So build a café/bistro if you don't want hunger to drain at home. Food is very scarce on your home island unless you really go out of for plumberries and shrooms. You won't get descent fish to cook until you reach deep in portal 2.

I usually wait until I beat chapter three because portal 3 has iron right around it's portal. That said all early three portals have iron, silver, and gold if you look hard enough. The 4th portal is more for if you want to get tickets for Gladitoria. Also you can reset islands anytime. Just don't cry if you forget to tear down your roof house.

Switch version is fine when docked. Undocked framerate is shit and it's a pain to use joycon's d-buttons to select toolbar in a pinch. And you need the joycon grip or keep controllers in system because d-buttons suck to use with seperate controllers.

I got it on PS4. its a fun what iff spin off of DQ1 but it felt limited like it was made for Vita first. If it was straight up "remake the world of DQ1/2/3 and then after 'just make your own NES style jrpg world' -especially with the map share potential- it would be a GOAT timesink. its not bad mind you i just hope the sequel adds more.

I suppose that's one thing I miss on Terra. There's no monsters to raid your base so there isn't a point to using hard materials. Granted there's Gladitoria. However there's no point in using anything but fortress block since half the tickets are golems.

This game did several things right where Minecraft failed, but if I had to pinpoint my favourite it's the "build a room, get effect/villagers work on it".

Holy shit, you'd think this would be easy for Mojang to pick up on. Automation easily removes the tedious late-game grind for food/materials on this sort of games, and having a town grow up that can automate basic tasks like making sandwiches/making basic building blocks is a great fucking idea.

Granted: they could have expanded it a bit more (let me pick what blocks they make in the mason's workshop, I'm sick of these wood windows on my stone buildings!) but hey, it's such a simple yet elegant simple, you have to wonder why didn't they pick it up.

I say some of them are. If you emulate, you should watch what translation you get. The original localization of IV (AKA Dragon Warrior II I think) renders everything in Shakespearean English. IV is good starting point according to my opinion its the most elaborated one of the earlier parts. IV to VI have pretty good DS ports. If you need to have physical copy, take one of these. The overall system is basically the same one bigbro was using when he played Dungeons and Dragons and Sirtech for Wizardry with his pals in the basement. Be prepared to deal with all its quirks when you pop in one of them.

When I arrived at the 4th area in the game, it was a bit of shock seeing all the characters do it, but I ended up getting used to it.

Oh btw, I guess I could use a list of possible rooms.

I ended up building a rollercoaster in my 3rd land base (the desert one) that crossed all the rooftops of myvillage but never had the idea of putting it INSIDE a room.

I heard about a "Doomed" room that's essentially just a room with a placed explosive (hence, the "doomed" part).

I think there's a "prison" room, but not sure what use it has, and maybe an dark altar room? There's plenty of "Evil" furniture around, I'd be disapointed if you can't build something with it.

A.) Minecraft is a pretty shit game. It becomes very apparent as soon you play a few minutes of the game we are talking about. You just want to be a contrarian dick with the backing of a shit game that has been knocked out by a fucking spinoff.

B.) The reason to play that block building game is because the it is essentially what Minecraft supposed to be but simplified. i.e. A 3D dwarf fortress crossbred with maniac miner. Hate to break it to you but the NES games don't exactly have the most complicated plots. That said I highly recommend the NES versions of 1-3 simply for the historical context of the time these games were made even with their archaic elements. The first game has a STAIRS command for Rubiss sake.

Doing Challenges now. The best weapon I have found so far is the Falcon blade that drains monsters out of HP in seconds.

Here is one some kraut has made. Have you done the roof challenge yet? This gives you a lot more possibilities. Also consider where you put the hospital. Its the biggest building in town and takes up all the room for the majority of the chapter. Dont forget that wood is the only material you can make tiling with. You can harvest brick from the Island behind the second teleporter.

Come to think about it, that's a great plot for an RPG: instead of destroying the world, the Evil Wizard simply casts a spell that steals half the IQ from everyone. Your hero was a 200 IQ super genious, so you end up at 100 which is pretty normal, but you're surrounded by retards all day and got teach them everything again.
