I don't recall New Colossus being particularly loved though, most everyone thought it was just a straight downgrade from New Order.

The problem with journos and sjws is that they care way more about a game's politics (on whether it caters to their strange brand of extreme-left politics or not) than if it's any fun or not. It was all planned. FC5 was originally going to be an SJW power fantasy of killing CIS white Christian males. Remember, the game was delayed almost an entire half a year.

Basically, they saw what happened with Watch Dogs 2, nuWolf, etc and realized that catering to SJWs wouldn't work, it'd end up with a flop of a game and a dead franchise. So they delayed the game, but this wasn't just any delay. It was a delay that skipped the holiday sales. Which is huge, developers never, ever want to miss holiday sales and push back into spring unless they absolutely have to. Now think, we have Ubisoft, who loves to rush out shitty games and then half-heartedly fix them later. You think they would miss out on the holiday sales to polish the game and improve it?

No, they did it to remove most of the far left pandering they put into the game. Probably because the businessmen stepped in and told all the SJW developers that they're not making their liberal fantasy game because it won't sell and Ubisoft needs a successful game to stave off the Vivendi buyout.

The end result is that they've found catering to left wing "players" doesn't sell games, catering to gamers does. If my theory on all this is correct, we'll not see another far-left game from Ubisoft like Watch Dogs 2 again. Ubisoft's dev staff may be totally pozzed, but at the end of the day they have to answer to shareholders and businessmen who are trying to keep a hostile takeover by Vivideni away. I wouldn't be surprised if Ubisoft very quietly starts shying away from most of this stuff. In fact, my guess is they release another game that doesn't cater to the far left and journos, and see how well that sells. And if it does well, they'll very, very slowly start abandoning diversity and left wing bias under the guise of hiring better talent.
