I replayed it about 2 years ago to see if it held up, and at least for me it did.
Tried Redigitize and it wasn't nearly the same.
I don't want any more attempts to recreate DW1 though, because I don't think it's possible any more.

Anyone else playing Digimon Adventure for PSP now that the English patch is finally finished? It's easy and simple but it adapts the anime so autistically accurately that I say it's worth it. Then again, I'm playing it incredibly autistically myself, making sure to always swap active mons and items after every battle to be as balanced as possible, fighting every monster on the field exactly once, and reloading my last save if I fuck up a Bonding moment. My save has 24 hours clocked and I only just beat Etemon.
I know it's probably the most casual Digimon game there is, but I still wish there were more like it. I'd play an 02 sequel. Or more likely since it's more popular, a Tamers game in the same style.

So, on another note, the dude in charge of the Cyber Sleuth games wants to include more "neglected" digimon and explicitly pointed out that Betamon SHOULD be as popular as Agumon, but because they only picked one of the rookie forms of each D pet version (other than 2 from 4.0), Agumon became super popular while Betamon was neglected (and was even more powerful than Agumon in the 1.0 Dpet). That is why the digimon you can select in Hacker's Memories are Betamon, Gotsumon, and Tentomon.

One thing I've always wondered about this franchise is if there is actually any way to make logical evolution trees, however convoluted. Obviously the way they evolved in the original d-pets was completely different from the anime, and I could never figure out what the fuck I was doing in Digimon World, but I know my Agumon and Gabumon never evolved into Greymon or Garurumon, even when I managed to avoid Scummon.

Then again, I've heard folk say the game is kinda SMT-like. Use boosts, get any advantage you can, because the game can and will bend you over.
Be careful when grinding with the Platinum Sukamon/Numemon. I saw a guy who stacked 3 of them, raised a few babies, but kept his regulars in as well. He was so over-leveled for the final boss. Not that even being maxed out helps you with some optional bosses, but still.
You can become unstoppable if you work hard at it, or you can pick favorites and have more of a challenge.

So when playing Digimon World recently, I found a brand new glitch guide. I ran into an odd side effect with one of the glitches however. When I performed the "Entering any cup / insta-win glitch" on Year 1 Day 29, it changed my prosperity to 28. This isn't the exact problem, however. I tried to contact the glitch hunter who found it, but it seems that he has no real way to communicate with him aside from maybe posting on GameFaqs or something, and screw that. His YouTube channel seems to not want to take any messages and I think all of his videos have closed comment sections. That or YouTube is being super gay, I fucking hate it.

I know you're referencing the Dagomon stuff, but it does get used. Not only does it end up as a prison for Demon, but it sets up the premise of further alternate universes that are linked to thoughts and emotions, which comes up again in the end. Call it disappointing if you want, I won't fully disagree, but people also make a bigger deal out of it than it is.
The original kids just keep becoming more important as the series goes on, and by the end they're practically as important as the new ones. That's one of the parts I like about the series, seeing the continuing adventures of the characters I like. Though that didn't save Tri.
I guess I like 02 a bit more because I'm a lorefag and it still has a lot of interesting worldbuilding, introducing key concepts like the Holy Beasts and such. Another thing to note is that the series is largely a sequel to the WonderSwan video games, as much or moreso than it is to the Adventure 1 anime. Of course I can't fault people here for not giving a shit about that since only the first game has an english version, and the plot doesn't really get going until the second.

The original kids do show up more as the series progresses, but it's like they did that because people complained. And even when they do return as more major characters, the new kids end up with most of the focus anyway. Not saying the new kids should've been background characters, but it's weird to have 02 be a direct sequel and for two of the original kids to be members of the main cast but the rest be shoved in the background until after the Kaiser arc. It's fine if you're okay with this, but it's an understandable complaint if you really like the Adventure cast.

Yes yes. What I like about Adventure is those character episodes, where each character's specific special emotion is examined even in the arcs that take place before they reveal what the crests represent. The problem with Sora is that even after her crest is activated, she continues being a bitch. She shows specific moments that look like growth is about to happen, the she continues being an emo bitch with Yamato later on. And then she causes a scene because she got a hairclip as a gift. I bought the premise that this was about a new team but in the same world. You're basically just asking for a whole different premise. As far as I was concerned it was linked enough, and it just became more linked as time went on. I wouldn't say it felt like an afterthought, either. Sure, it might have been, but I thought it was tied in well, as they slowly reveal much of the stuff that happened between the two series, and tie that in directly with the larger worldbuilding. The original kids end up being very integral. If anything I think a complaint should be that the new kids aren't important enough to warrant their being main characters. They aren't tied into the big plot developments and major worldbuilding except for Ken. Everything else still revolves around the original kids.

I accidentally watched the entirity of 02 after Adventures (both subs) and while I wanted to like it, it was pretty half-baked and you could see they had problems trying to decide where it should go. Veemon was pretty much robbed of any possible character and just basically "protagonist's buddy". Plot threads do just get wrapped up really unceromonically like BlackWarGreymon just coming back in the real world for one episode just to get blown out of existence. Tri is absolute shit in practically every way. The designs are ugly, the tone is boring, the plot moves at a snail's pace so they can just keep focusing on the new character who is the biggest mary sue waifubait in history. I kinda liked one of the movies so far, but only because it had a fight scene long enough for them to play an extended version of Brave Heart.

Kind of fits with the "inner spirit" idea in Japanese media regarding combat, doesn't it? Focusing on personal martial perfection beyond mere material means; the digimon and their abilities aren't anywhere near as important as the tamer's own growth and determination. Pretty much all of Renamon's character development centres around what Ruki does, to the point where she gives credit to the tamer for her OWN digivolutions.
It's very easy to see a human in digimon having control over an unstoppable creature, only to suffer downfall when it becomes apparent that they've got some flaw of character that gets reflected in the mon. For contrast, a Western show would probably relegate digimon to being separate entities, if but mere tools, and so someone with an uberpowered mon would have to be outsmarted by someone else's agency rather than falling prey to their own hubris or whathaveyou, since the supermon has power separate from the tamer.

The Digimon still look fine, they always look the same through every iteration of the franchise, but the humans, who used to still have fun, vibrant, cartoony designs, now all have the same fucking waifu/husbandobait designs with the same fucking faces and a complete lack of color or "animation" to them. But can I even blame the designs? That's exactly what happened to the entire series, so the designs fit perfectly with everything else Tri does. Well sure, plenty of otakus might go for waifubait, but if that's what they want, there are plenty of other series that deliver that, and aren't bogged down trying to pretend to fit into the world and continuity of a 20 year old toy commercial. They basically are already like that. Early on in Adventure somehow only Chosen Children could see Digimon, as seen in the original movie and when Taichi and Agumon first go back to the real world. Of course later that goes away when Dracula takes over Toyko and becomes a serial killer and unleashes giant monsters and crashes airplanes, but then somehow in Tri everyone forgot about Digimon again and the Chosen Children aren't world famous superheroes despite saving the world from giant monsters in the middle of Tokyo and other major cities on several occasions by this point.

I still want to do a story where the current group of kids and their mon fight some bad guys, but it eventually gets way out of hands and you find out heir parents were a previous team of chosen, but now their partners are the current seven demon lords. While the kids and the young mon fight to each demon lord, the actual demon lord confrontation reveals a dark secret about each adult, because the digimon followed what they thought their human would like the most and tried to impress them or be the best for them. IE: Barbamon's human became a cutthroat loan shark, so his digimon followed suit, Lucemon's human was the arrogant "always right" leader, Lillithmon's MALE human pined for a human chick who used him and dumped him with the kid afterwards while said Digimon wanted to do the horizontal monster mash with him and thus continued to do everything in her power to look more and more beautiful and sexy.
This would change up the dynamic of how the "bad guy" is beaten, especially if said parent character remains with the demon lord, would flip the adventure on it's head less than midway through, and so on. I'm in love with the idea of this broken, single father who feels no one will really love him in life having to face the fact that his digimon loved him more than any human did and beats her by accepting her love for him and giving her a top tier smooch
