I didn't even like most of the top releases of 2017 (like BotW, Mario Odyssey and Persona 5), but I can see the appeal of them nonetheless (and the fact that they are good games, only not for me). For my tastes, Nioh, Yakuza 0, Nier: Automata and Divinity Original Sin 2 were all excellent, plus I've had some enjoyable, above average games like Gravity Rush 2, Xenoblade 2 and Dead Cells. That is a pretty decent year and my tastes aren't even as broad as most people's. I namedropped a lot of anime in a previous post, but I actually didn't like and dropped over half of them, but I'm not a brainlet to conflate a deviation from my personal tastes with something being bad which is basically /v/'s (and /a/'s) poison of choice.
