D:OS 1 is better. D:OS 2 is a lot worse overall. Here's a review: http://www.rpgcodex.net/content.php?id=10848 (also has useful build advice.)
First off: Initiative is fucking worthless so don't bother getting it. Second, debuffs are worthless as shit since magic and phys armor will stop them, turning D:OS 2 into more flat damage trash design. Tags: Scholar/Mystic are the most valuable tags, opening quest options that the others don't have. You should also get the Pet Pal for quest option and one of you should play a Lizard iirc (I think faceripper works too). BTW: If you do that animal sacrifice ritual for source points, you lose the Pet Pal talent, so just some advance warning.
If you go double undead you can grab Hydrosophist+Geomancer for Rain + Contamination letting you make giant poison pools to heal off of while living enemies die. The only problem is that for some reason poison surfaces are flammable and it can all turn into burning terrain easy. Other than that, Necromancer+Summoner can get broken because your necro-summons are powerful with zero ranks of Summoner making your summons pretty broken strong when you start using Summoner ranks.
Must-haves: Get Polymorph. A lot of good utility and perks and Apotheosis is a fucking game-breaker late in the game. A basic rank of Hydro gives you Armor of Frost. Always fucking get armor recovery abilities, esp. since they remove status effects.
Attributes: Go full fucking glass cannon (DON'T get the talent) and invest all your talents into your damage attribute of choice along with enough memory to do your shit. Constitution is overrated since your real health pool is your armor and magic armor stats. Get your fucking armor and magic armor with abilities and gear and shit and get some abilities to buff up your scores so you won't die.
Cheese action points. Get The Pawn or Executioner as one of your talents. Lone Wolf is great (esp double lone wolf) but if you guys go Lone Wolf you can't get any companions beyond each other. Elves have Flesh Sacrifice to sacrifice constitution for an extra action point and damage bonus, which is lovely. Scoundrels can get Adrenaline Rush letting you borrow action points from your next turn (iirc you can cheese this with Chameleon Skin from Polymorph). Fane has a source ability giving people an extra turn. Using Faceripper on an elf will give you Flesh Sacrifice, fyi.
There should be some proper builds but fuck if I know. There's my advice anyway.
