It doesn't look like a big crunch will happen. So a 'bouncing' universe will not happen. Rather the universe will continue to expand forever and ever until the graviation pull is so weak that galaxies will not be able to maintain their existense and even solar systems and planets will eventually be ripped apart down to molecules and atoms and smaller. We will not get a big crunch instead we will get a big freeze where everything is seperated from one another once with the ultimate heat death of the universe. Once the final dwarf star burns out the sky will become permanently black, truly pitch black for the first time with the ultimate freeze.
That said though I don't view this as a bad thing. The point of life isn't perpetual existense but the experiences we make while we're alive.

There is no intrinsic point of being alive. We are nothing more then very complex chemical reactions anyway. If you want to make the point about the experiences and shit, then by all means do so, but that doesn't necessarily mean that that point is universal.
That said, I kind of hope that mankind lasts long enough and reaches far enough to at least have jumping to another universe that is farther from that end, or finding a static universe that is viable, is at least genuinely on the table at one point in our oddly specific series of chemical reactions future.

I don't know shit about physics beyond common knowledge. What if everything is expanding faster then gravity can pull? If the speed of light is the fasting speed posible, if everything were moving apart at the speed of light, could gravity pull everything back together to stop it from expanding? Gravity has infinite range. The kinetic energy held in objects expanding away from the center of the universe is finite(every thing is still expanding from the energy of the big bang). Objects in the universe are always pulling on each other, even those on opposite sides. This gravitational pull will eventually exhaust the energy in these objects. Once these outwardly moving objects run out of kinetic energy, they will begin to move back towards the center of the universe because of said gravitational pull, despite it being extremely weak at this point. As I said before, this will probably take an inconceivable amount of time but eventually everything will meet again at the center of the universe.

A big crunch can only really occur if the universe is closed and most observations suggest that the universe is not closed but open and not flat either. In an open universe gravity will slow down the expansion but only marginally and can not stop it. Even if the universe is closed, which is not very unlikely, the presence of dark matter and energy produces a repulsive effect that counteracts gravity's pull and there seems to be a lot more dark matter/energy with their repulsive effects than normal matter with its normal gravitational attraction. Even now the universe is not just expanding but accelerating. Gravity will slow down the rate of acceleration, but it will still be accelerating and will not decelerate forever expanding. The big freeze is looking to the way the universe will end. It is not definitive though of course but even if the big freeze is not the end then a big crunch has an even smaller infinitesimal chance of happening. The second law of thermo also throws a wrench into a perfect;y flat/static universe and bouncing/oscillatory universes too. The pitch black of the sky is coming.

You can't just look at outer space, which we understand only a fraction of, and extrapolate the future of a universe which we can barely even see. You realize how insane that is? According to history the earth repeatedly meets a major change, last destroyed by water 7-10kya. There isn't any reason to believe the world is "cyclical". The end of the universe is a long ways off, but what we've been discussing is theories based on the information that we have. The implication that you're making is that we shouldn't speculate about things when there is unknown variables, which is silly. No one is making significant decisions based on these theories. Part of science and discovery is making hypothesis and disproving or backing up those hypothesis. The information and theories we have are constantly evolving, and there's no reason for us to wait on analyzing the information we have now.

Because that's the point of astronomy and cosmology anon. It's science you make observations and try to form hypotheses and theories to explain those observations. And current observation seem to disprove a cyclic universe and point to one with a definite end. You would be surprised the crazy amount of precision physics can pull off. Look at the cosmic background radiation and the measurement of gravitational waves as just two examples. But yeah it is extremely unlikely that the universe is cyclic the mountains of modern reseach and observation just do not point to that and it is not merely extrapolating and guesswork.It is no longer the burden of modern cosmology to disprove the big crunch or static universes, but now the burden of proof is on you to prove why a cyclic universe should be accepted. Of course physics isn't infallible since the whole point of dark matter and energy is it is a gigantic asspull of physics after the Standard Model failed to predict certain things since it has not been able to resolve general relativity and quantum mechanics together yet. We don't know what dark matter and energy is but it is abundantly clear that dark energy is causing expansion and acceleration and that it is the overwhelming amount of material in the universe. Normal matter with its standard gravitation attraction is in the small minority. Just from that you can rule out a static and shrinking universe. The universe will not last forever or continue in cycles one day it will end.

If there is dark energy forcing the universe to expand which honestly is a silly explanation for why the universe continues to expand then dark energy also must succumb to entropy. Whether it takes longer or not for the fabric of the universe to begin contracting is irrelevant, but this seems to be the only logical conclusion.
