WHAT IS HALO CUSTOM EDITION?
HCE (Not to be confused with the PC version of Combat evolved, which is typically called HPC) is a stand alone version of Halo PC that supports custom content. Released by Gearbox, HCE boasts not only custom multiplayer content but singleplayer.

If you have issues with mega grab this tool. This also bypasses the need to install their shitty plugin.

The megalink is a repack of what I run on the server, it's larger than the torrent due to having all the maps you'll need for the gamenight hopefully which cuts down on time downloading to join

DDL SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS
To reduce file size I compressed the maps folder before packaging everything in the easy to digest 5 gig download. Before running HCE make sure you extract the maps.7z folder. just right click the archive and hit "extract here" as it's already in a maps folder and running "extract to 'maps'" would create a maps within a maps folder and Halo will obviously fail to run.

installing optic packs
>Download the pack of your choice
DO NOT EXTRACT THE CONTENTS LEAVE IT IN IT'S ARCHIVED FILE
>Run HCE and then close it to create the folders
>navigate to your documents folder
>Go to My games>HaloCE>HAC
>Create a folder named "pack"
Final path should look like: My Documents>My Games>HaloCE>HAC>pack
>Drop the archive into the pack folder
>Start up HCE
>Open console
>Type "Optic" to view all loaded packs, this is to confirm you installed the pack(s) right
>Type "Optic_load <filename>" with the filename being as it is on the archived file

SETTING FOV
When in game hit F6 and adjust by moving your mouse. Hit F6 again to set it
OR
Open console and type "fov #", with # being the desired FoV
HELP THE CHAT KEEPS BLINKING IN AND OUT OF EXISTENCE!
HaloPC and Halo Custom Edition both have a rudimentary chat functionality stapled onto them. Fret not as there are two options here.

Download a chatbox mod, follow it's enclosed install instructions

Open console and type "Custom_chat 1". This chat is styled after the text seen in Halo Reach and is a bit better. This option is also the best option if you don't want to download too much shit.

Instructions (Basing off windows install)

>Open it
>If you've run HaloCE before you'll see a folder for it
>unzip the archive
>You'll find two folders, both of these go in the HaloCE folder
SAPP has not only my configs, but SAPP documentation in PDF format, Save games has all gametypes as well as a bunch of "blank slates"
Inside you'll also find a program called "Flare" This allows for more customization of game modes than the in game options give you.

The CD key provided is a spare one I have. Since HAC2 and OS can't play nice together it's good to have a install of HCE for SPv3 while the HAC2 version is used for MP.

This week's gamenight will not be Halo CE but Lawbreakers instead. Why? Cause we felt like it and Lawbreakers is a great game. We have also replaced all game nights with Lawbreakers until further notice.

There is no crack or pirate server available. But even if there was we would still be playing on the legit servers to support the game.

How do I play?
Launch the game from steam.
What gamemodes are there?
Overcharge where you have to fight over a battery and keep it in your base until it reaches 100% charge. The battery keeps its charge so it's possible to steal it at 99% and cuck the other team majorly.
Uplink is pretty much the same thing as Overcharge except the progress is linked to the team not the object so cucking isn't possible.
Occupy is like King of the Hill with a zone that occasionally moves around.
Turf War is like King of the Hill but with 3 zones. Capturing a zone will get you one point and remove the zone. Once all 3 zones are captured they are reset. This continues until the score limit.
Blitzball has nothing to do with that shitty Final Fantasy minigame. You have to capture a ball and bring it back to your base. The ball will explode if it's held for too long.
Server?
Lawbreakers currently does not have a server browser or private game feature. Just enter the queue normally. Due to the low amount of players we are probably all going to be matched together.

HAC auto-downloads maps before joining a server so you don't need to download them beforehand. There's also an option to enable no-lead, which makes the bullets hitscan or similar.
Personally I don't like it since I'm use to aiming ahead but it's good for those with laggy connections.

If you get your console commands sorted out you can make a cfg file in the game root directory (example halo.cfg) and execute it by adding to your shortcut:

Dont' add optic load to this or it will crash when starting.
If you find the default chat hard to read you can change the font and color under <install path>/content/<horizontal resolution>log.ksml and editbox.ksml.

My recommendation would be Star Wars Battlefront II (the REAL one). I've poked-around with a few servers and it seems fairly stable now compared to how it was when they first relaunched the servers.

Some other mid-2000's shooters I could see being fun are SOCOM and Ratchet Deadlocked, but sadly they're locked down to PS2, servers are down, and I don't know of any workarounds (and emulation for Ratchet is still busted last I checked).

btw we can also host and play Turok 2 now, you don't really need the GOG installer last I checked, so long as someone has it they can just zip it up with everything you need and upload it to mega/ it's not even a big game so no funny or shady shit necessary to work around everything.
