Give me games that are pre-rendered, let me bask in their full glory. I'll give you bonus points for anything recent, or that is vintage but can be rendered in HD.

Regardless, I'll take what I can get. Love this shit.

Iffermoon, Killer Instinct 2 (Arcade), Doom 64, Banjo Pilot, Chocobo Racing, Mischief Makers, Yoshi's Story.

There was a discussion around unused art styles here, might have some games you'd be interested in:

I was playing a game recently that reminded me of the old PS1 RPGs called Legrand Legacy. It wasn't pre-rendered I don't think, just hand-painted backgrounds, but it had the feel.

Trails in the Sky also has pre-rendered characters. Estelle best girl.

Evoland goes through the stages of action adventure/RPG games, and has a PS1 era pre-rendered town environment.

here is a handy dandy prefabricated list. I bet all the tiles combined would still be under 5 GB and fit on a thumb drive.

Oh shit never mind my last post. I'm tiered, I thought you said "Pre-retarded Games" as in back in the day when developers still understood fun

You're still right, not many pre-rendered games after 2007 save for Desolate Hope, Hylics and Armikrog. How sad…

Riven will always be the king of pre-rendered games in my heart, it's an obvious choice but a worthwhile mention all the same. Oddworld - Soulstorm (hypothetically releasing in 2018) will unfortunately be rendered in real time, but it's a good excuse to revisit the originals anyhow.

I think the most recent game I've played with pre-rendered assets was The Swapper back in 2013, there are a few articles from the visual artists on how they made the clay assets.

Boatloads of cheap tycoon games (often made in Germany) made around the turn of the century

7e11a0 No.14471439

What exactly is prerendering here? I think I get it when talking about cutscenes: The devs process everything on a high end system and then just display the recording. However, are you talking about characters moving around and other gameplay elements being prerendered? I probably won't be able to contribute anything other than a bump, but I am curious about this now.

I wouldn't call a game that only has prerendered cutscenes a "prerendered game"

Yeah, I'm curious about that one as well, I'm not aware of any games with wholly prerendered assets that can also be upscaled for higher resolutions.

> I'll give you bonus points for anything that is vintage but can be rendered in HD.

By definition, pre-rendered graphics can't be rendered at higher resolution.

119d3a No.14471855

>>14471848

You can render the 3D enviroments at higher resolutions tho, like using an emulator.

2d360c No.14471879

>>14471848

I suppose it could be possible if the assets are being downscaled from a higher resolution in the first place. It wouldn't technically count as upscaling to HD but would seem like it. I'm still not aware of any game that does this, though.

bf8306 No.14471888

>>14471855

This usually generate poor results as high-res 3D models and pre-rendered 2D textues end up clashing together.
