Well, if it's proprietary software like disagreement windows chrome etc. and centralized it's bound to be a botnet. No matter if they say that they care about "privacy" or "security", they can't prove any of it. Not to mention about Censorship, which is just a click of a button for the proprietor.

I've been using it myself since Rainway has been utter shite. It works pretty well and I'm even able to play games on a non throttled LTE connection.

You can use an open source VPN system to host a VPN and connect to it. It's what I did last time I wanted do what you want.

You can use Wire if you want a free chat program with more permanence than Mumble. The security white paper is three short pages and written in plain English, while the company itself is based in Switzerland and makes money from sales to corporations rather than selling user data.

how about you just run a fucking vpn, it's not that hard

the host is the only one who is going to have to fuck with port forwarding on their router. you can literally set it up in half an hour, in 5 minutes if you know what your doing. why would you ever consider using a third party for this.
