This seems planned. Aren't the rest of the files left alone? We were promised mods, but if it uses Denuvo mods become more difficult. So by releasing the demo's .exe untouched we can get access to mods while devs are still listening to the Publisher's demand for Denuvo.
And Denuvo sometimes gets removed if games are cracked too early. Since it'll likely be the new version of Denuvo the company won't want hackers to crack the new version so quickly. With an untouched .exe file to compare with the Denuvo one, I assume this will make future cracks easier this version of Denuvo, so they will likely remove it with haste and the devs can impliment mod tools sooner.
