In X3 Reunion most merchants start out by buying low selling high energy cells. Once you hoard enough a fortune you can later on start your own factory complex space station that you command a chain of space trucks to haul resources from other companies to you in order to produces primary, secondary or tertiary goods that you can sell to other space travelers. It can go from space cowboy to space factorio since sometimes your trucks can get attacked by bandits so you'd either set up defense there or scout the stars for an ideal trade route.
You can also play the stock exchange and affect what goods are sold throughout the whole galaxy

Anyhow, have any of you ever played Monopoly Tycoon? it's a fun real estate type of game. I do really love timing property actions to happen just after six in the morning so all your opponents have to buy their morning stock and have little cash to oppose you. It's quite fun…but after like 8 levels it suddenly goes into asenine bullshit and i keep losing.

For instance, Sid Meiers Pirates is a pretty fun, if shallow romp set through the carribean. Ultimately it's really hampered IMO by some wierd keypad based design, an ultimately shallow and long experience, but it can be quite fun playing a spaniard hating pirate and going on a romp capturing spanish towns and handing them to their enemies. It's fun for a while, but then it gets into a long long slog. If only there was a real proper golden age of piracy game, maybe with assembling a hometown, a pirate haven with the income of raiding other towns and ships.
