How was it? Reminder that everyone else can create an EU account but it's gonna show up everywhere else eventually.

Can you play solo or is it 3 AI buddies no matter what you do?

It was alright. Not a fan of how HAL is skimping out on the framerate over what's probably still gonna be 720p. I think it actually works pretty well with the GameCube controller.

It’s monotonous like all modern Kirby.

You can dismiss party members at will, though a lot of puzzles from what I've seen are going to be reliant on them.

Fuck me, it really is 30fps. Dear Christ this is embarrassing, especially for HAL who for all their faults always did a masterful job making use of crappy Nintendo specs. The art doesn't even look good, there's no reason for it other than rushed development.

Also the music seems lifted 1:1 from Triple Deluxe.

I always enjoyed Kirby platformers despite the easy difficulty, but wow is this a hard pass.

IMO it might be the best Kirby in the gameplay department, I really like how the helpers work and how they all have their own unique idle animations

>Only kirby game I played was one of the SNES ones, so I can't rightly count myself as a fan

>Play the easy level of this demo

Despite the negative difficulty, I still found myself having fun.

76ce72 No.14429105

Is there really no music? Is the final product really sub-30fps? What's going on at HAL? They're normally so excited to make the new Kirby games that they go all out. I need answers.

b995b8 No.14429118

Just as lame, easy, and uninspired as every other Kirby these days, one might presume.

3fda6f No.14429466

So I played both levels, easy and hard. It didn't take me more than 15 minutes and there were some really concerning things.

First of all, the difficulty. Kirby has always been easy, but it's never been this easy. Three allies, freely handed to you throughout the game and you can easily create more on the fly.

At least in Amazing Mirror (also my favourite Kirby game) this was balanced by the three allies being three other kirbies and you could only call them if you had battery in your cell (which was a limited resource).

Because of this, bosses spend barely any time focusing on you and you're given free reign to wail of them, Hell during the level they'll kill everything for you if you're feeling lazy.

I beat two of the levels barely paying attention and I ended up with near 20 extra lives, or something stupid like that.

Speaking of levels, I sure hope what they were showing us was random strips of levels because otherwise this is the worst level design i've ever seen in a kirby game.. So disjointed and linear.

Again, kirby games have always been more or less linear but this doesn't encourage going out of the beaten path to search for secrets, everything is hidden in plain sight or hidden in some grass out in the open.

Even these strips felt really dull, and designed purely to get from A to B rather than for the sake of being an enjoyable level.

There is music, it's not the best but there's certainly music. I didn't like Dedede's theme in this, which is a shame because it's one of my favourite themes in Kirby and one of the most iconic. I still listen to Kirby's Dreamland (GB) and Nightmare In Dreamland's themes from time to time because they're so good… This however was not.

Every "challenge area" gives you the tools needed to complete it. Find a room that needs cutter and frost? There's podiums in that very room to give you these abilities or create friends from them. This will kill replayability, which previously was going through areas again with new abilities just to get through challenge rooms/special areas.

I'm waiting for the full release but this demo has put me off the game, a shame since I was actually going to buy it.

7e313c No.14435996

The framerate really kills it for me. It's so fucking bad. The levels are straight lines from beginning to end, all of the challenges that would be otherwise interesting give you the abilities you need and give you exact instructions on how to complete them (I hope that's just because these were tutorials and it gets more interesting as you play more, but my hopes aren't up, given the framerate and other issues).

Combining copy abilities makes me a little excited. I like that idea, and have been waiting for something to do that again since Kirby 64. It's not exactly as good, because it's pretty arbitrary shit, like "hit sword with fire to make it fire sword, also works with ice, water, and electricity, but nothing else", so not nearly as good as real arbitrary combinations. I also noticed that there are multiple ways to pass some puzzles (the grassland one with the water that you have to block with the umbrella to light the fuse, you can also just freeze the waterfall to do it).

The difficulty is really painfully low. Maybe it will be better in later levels in the actual game, but it's pretty pathetic here. The amount of hits you can take is ludicrous.

I'll probably buy it so I can play it with my 5-year-old; at least he won't die over and over again like every other fucking game. This kid sucks at video games. If he can't get through Kirby, I might have to put him up for adoption.
