So I played both levels, easy and hard. It didn't take me more than 15 minutes and there were some really concerning things.
First of all, the difficulty. Kirby has always been easy, but it's never been this easy. Three allies, freely handed to you throughout the game and you can easily create more on the fly.
At least in Amazing Mirror (also my favourite Kirby game) this was balanced by the three allies being three other kirbies and you could only call them if you had battery in your cell (which was a limited resource).
Because of this, bosses spend barely any time focusing on you and you're given free reign to wail of them, Hell during the level they'll kill everything for you if you're feeling lazy.
I beat two of the levels barely paying attention and I ended up with near 20 extra lives, or something stupid like that.
Speaking of levels, I sure hope what they were showing us was random strips of levels because otherwise this is the worst level design i've ever seen in a kirby game.. So disjointed and linear.
Again, kirby games have always been more or less linear but this doesn't encourage going out of the beaten path to search for secrets, everything is hidden in plain sight or hidden in some grass out in the open.
Even these strips felt really dull, and designed purely to get from A to B rather than for the sake of being an enjoyable level.
There is music, it's not the best but there's certainly music. I didn't like Dedede's theme in this, which is a shame because it's one of my favourite themes in Kirby and one of the most iconic. I still listen to Kirby's Dreamland (GB) and Nightmare In Dreamland's themes from time to time because they're so good… This however was not.
Every "challenge area" gives you the tools needed to complete it. Find a room that needs cutter and frost? There's podiums in that very room to give you these abilities or create friends from them. This will kill replayability, which previously was going through areas again with new abilities just to get through challenge rooms/special areas.
I'm waiting for the full release but this demo has put me off the game, a shame since I was actually going to buy it.
