I want to get into Elona, but it seems far too complex and convoluted to just hop into. There's so much shit to read, and there's so many different actions you can do, and there's way too many buttons that do so many different things. That's my problem with getting into Dwarf Fortress; the UI and goals are far too confusing. My only rogue-like experiences are babby-tier rogue-likes like Faster Than Lite and Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup and Dungeons of Dredmor.

tl;dr is there any way to ease myself into Elona, or is it one of those games you have to have knowledge and experience of games similar to it to enjoy it?

Anyway, elona is a great beginner roguelike since there's no permadeath and no penalty for dying for the first few levels. As far as controls go, just keep the wiki page open and remember to control your character with the number pad instead of the arrow keys and you'll get used to them eventually.

You can increase favor with gods by offering corpses and a specific god dependant item-type at an altar. They don't have rankings as such just an amount of favor you have with them which increases the bonuses they give to you.

By that you mean which one is the best? Jure's first reward, the defender pet, can save one ally (including you) from dying, recharges on sleep, so get that at some point. If you're a mage you'll need Itzpalt's second reward to boost elemental spells. Kumiromi is the best because you regenerate stamina at a high rate, so you can spam special abilities. Other than that, just worship whatever you feel like to get rewards.

If you're referring to skills, I don't know, try going to a trainer and seeing how high you can go. Attribute potential %'s are hidden but in your character sheet the highest they go is "Superb"

More precisely it's not random or over time, as You improve related skills, the potential decreases and as you improve skills your stats go up and as they do they also lose potential.

Training potential for skills is fairly easy as you just spend PP or level-up trains to increase them.

Stat potentials are more of a bitch and mainly require eating good foods and sleeping on nice beds.

The easiest way get additional potential early game is to buy a rogue wizard from the slave market who comes with the cooking skill and sleep so that you will wake up in the middle morning and get a free breakfast, later you can splice that cooking skill into a desired pet with the gene machine.

If you look at the char sheet you can see where the user graphics start, the square where 1 would be is always blank (along with the one above it). I have no idea why it can't be 1 though, you'd have to go code diving to find out. Since the portraits or pccs arn't on the sheet I don't know why this is the way to do it anyway, presumably there is an issue with making a characters walking sprite call a seperate sheet but it shouldn't be that hard to change, especially considering everything else that has been added/modified.

If you're a mage with a ranged pet, I guess it might boost your damage occasionally. You'd probably want to convert it to an adamantium repeating crossbow, though.

Ballistas are pretty bad overall but it could work with an adamantium/ether (depending on wether you want to wield it or are giving it to a pet) material kit as these have extremely high damage multipliers and low hit multipliers (hit multipliers work the same for positive and negative hit chances as does dv/pv mult. making very low stats in those areas desireable for negative base stats). Since selling it won't net you alot if you don't want to invest in it just throw it in a shed and come back to it once you have a better feel for what is useful (once you enter act II you can get an item that tells you the exact values for attributes which would be useful for the invoke). In genera invokes are pretty useless though unless they buff they're just too random to be relied upon.

Short of turning it all into juice, I don't think I can cook all of this fast enough and I wouldn't be able to eat it all either before it's all rotten.

The fridge seems to hold more things than I recall it did (just 4 stacks) but it's still limited and there's nowhere else to put this.

Just (R)est whenever you get tired, and continue cooking again when your SP gets full. Shit takes several days to even grow. Also you should be planting and picking in the rain to keep your plants from dying.

Also you can drop rotten food onto the compost so you can get fertilizer to help budding plants become ready for harvest.

The higher the 'harvest time' quest, the higher the chance of getting herb seeds (they are only second to 'artifact seeds' in rarity). If you are worshiping kumiromi and have the cute fairy pet then you can feed it high grade food when it is hungry, in exchange for seeds. the easiest way to get seeds this way is if you go to sleep in a city inn, after you wake up, you go to the city baker, buy some rank 5 food and give it to the cute fairy.

Yes, with a low gardening skill, your plants have a high risk of dying when not being planted and harvested in rainy weather.

In older versions you used to get loads of them trading for sox with <Kuroya> the looking universe, now I just get them from trading for medals at Garok's Workshop.
