It can be as autistic as you want it to be. You don't have to design and plan your own reactors, coilguns or NERVA engine. Many of the stock space craft are shockingly fun to bash against each other in earth orbit.

Actual space combat would be boring as shit; Space navies would watch each other approaching over the course of decades, reach effective laser weapons range (even the most precise laser will have some angle of divergence), and then proceed to haphazardly fire all over the place hoping that they successfully predicted where the enemy will be in a year's time. Both fleets would probably also have deployed shield mirrors to scatter the initial laser volley anyway forcing them to spend the next 5 years moving into missile range, watch the exchange of fire as the volleys meet in the middle in the middle, and then wait for the inevitable barrage of destruction to come raining down after a year or so crippling both sides beyond repair.
And with FTL it becomes downright depressing: the enemy sees you first, sends a giant disco ball of destruction that can only be detected when it arrives, which then proceeds to scatter death and destruction throughout a starsystem in a matter of minutes. It's nuclear prisoner's dilemma where the person who shoots first always wins.

I didn't like stellaris. I still put 256 hours into it, but I realised at the end that I'd basically done everything there was to do. The game is slow. You barely have to concentrate on it, I usually had a lecture or something going on my 2nd monitor because you don't have to concentrate on the game that hard. War is bashing big numbers against each other and last time I checked, ship design was either rushing lances/kinetic artillery, or massing the starter corvette because HIGHER TECH COMPONENTS ARE RESOURCE INEFFICIENT WHO THE FUCK DESIGNED THIS?
A rough diamond is Star Ruler 2, but the devs got shit on by game journalists, because they were "too small to worth reporting", so the studio shut down some time after releasing the first expansion. It's still a complete, really fun game but the lack of polish does occasionally show itself.

Children of A Dead Earth.
>anything like KSP
Only in the sense that you can design your starship and it's components. Outside of that, it's not even close.
CoAD uses full Newtonian physics as opposed to KSP's patched conic approximation.
In english; CoAD is more a sim, than KSP and not nearly as forgiving.
If you've ever wondered what possible space war would look like with tech both real(nuclear thermal engines are 60's tech) and theoretical(fusion and torch mods)? Than this is for you.
>>14367876
>lasers will be the dominant weapon-meme
This would be true if not for the fact that lasers are hideously handicapped by heat and diffusion of the beam over stellar ranges.

That's another thing that SR does better; unless you colossally/continually fuck something up you can turn wars around. The AI isn't that great at protecting its commerce so if you can manage to hold the line you can fuck their economy.

Nope, since it was made by swedish cucks, you have an option to play as the AIs cumslut. It's pretty much teach you what await for the defeated since your empire will be sucked dry and you will be disposed as soon as a stronger enemy attacks your overlord.
However, if you have a porn mode you can out fuck your despot and racemix the shit out of them. At the end it will be like America nowadays. white only by name, but in reality it's a latino colony.

There hasn't been a good space game in years. Stellaris came close to it and even that failed because >lol paradox. It's still a good game to sink many hours in, but you'll soon realize its many flaws. And it has mods, i guess, although if you pirate it you have to get them from a .ru website so good luck with that.
I tried to get into distant wolrd but as soon as you get past the initial complexity you find out that too is flawed with MANY kinds of bullshit. The AI is either retarded or prints out ships out of nowhere, UI can be a nightmare and overall the games simply fail to entertain once you get some sort of routine going.
Endless space is total garbage, i haven't been disappointed in a game in such a long time. I'd unironically kill the developers just for the choices they made, from artstyle to gameplay. Someone mentioned sword of the stars 2 and if you're reading save yourself the time, it's a buggy clunky mess that is not worth the time it takes to download it.

but I like that they try to make it realistic space travel, they drive that has strong push and efficient enough to sustain travel throughout the solar system
they have believable space settlements, like colonizing Saturn's moons, mining asteroids for water and such things
and pretty cool meta to the universe, like people who grew in the "belts" having elongated and weekend limbs because of the low gravity, and people from mars having a hard time adjusting to earth's atmosphere
