Ever since I was a wee child, I was never at all interested in the idea of playing as a male character when given the choice. When I was playing Tekken on my PS1, I pretty much exclusively played Nina.
I thought it was a phase I'd grow out of, but I'm well into adulthood and I still can't bring myself to play male characters if there's a female option.
Is this normal? Is this healthy? Is this a sign that I will end up like Bruce Jenner? Do you guys ever worry about things like this?

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. If you like a character, you pick it, simple as that. The initial characters I picked in Street Fighters were Sakura or Chun-Li, because I like tomboys and I like thick thighs and ass. In Mortal Kombat, I initially went for Cyrax because he's a motherfucking robot and Johnny Cage because he's such a dick. All the aforementioned characters fit my playstyles, too.
You have to think what your motivations are for picking women characters. Do you want to fuck them, or do you want to be like them? I think that's the important thing to know. If it such a problem for you, you should pick a dude character every once in a while and see how it feels. No overthinking it, just doing it. Could be cathartic.
It could also just be an autistic quirk you have from childhood, like always preferring sword-and-board weapons, refusing to use items ever, or always picking the same map. Rigid decisions without any other reason besides that they are tried-and true. I played on easy for the longest time then, but I was always bored out of my mind because of it. Now I always go normal and if the game has proved it's worth playing, I play all the hard difficulties.

Everyone has their own personal criteria for picking the characters they do. There's nothing wrong with it.
Me, for example, I always pick heavy/damaging/bruiser/assault-type characters and builds. I always pick characters like Donkey Kong, Zangief, Abigail, King Dedede, Atlas D-DC, Heavy Weapons Guy, etc. I'm all about raw power and damage.
