Is it just me, or has this game become objectively worse over time?

Spawn rates are fucked. There's so much useless shit now that just takes up spawn slots for things that actually have uses. I go to 3 different towns, going to several mechanic garages and hardware stores, and STILL couldn't find a simple fucking wrench. I ended up just spawning one because finding such a basic tool being that hard is just ridiculous. Same thing with a rubber hose so you can siphon fuel from cars.

Crafting has become insanely bloated with a million different recipes just for food like this is some kind of fucking chef simulator now. They even added some gay nutrition system, although that can be disabled with a mod that comes with the game thankfully.

They added this retarded engine load mechanic that doesn't even work properly. I know a 4-cylinder isn't going to carry as much weight as a v8 can, but jesus christ I just added some food and tools to a car and that completely blew the engine because it was "too heavy".

Mutation went from being a cool mechanic that let you become a fucked up abomination to being some furry RP tool.

Disabled half the new things, manually nerfed shady zombies to the ground damn, they're annoying as hell… killing the most fun part of the game: sneaking around at night

Apparently a new breed of zombies that have poor vision in daylight, but see very well in the dark. They're invisible in the dark unless they're 1 tile away from you or you shine light on them. Otherwise about the same strength as any regular zombie.

Except they spawn in groups of 4+ and bunch up in towns. Try looting at night and they'll see you from miles or catch your scent then follow you to the end of the world.

They make very little make sense, I guess the dev wanted to add something spooky but lacked creativity to do so properly.

Jesus fucking christ. Apparently this was a pretty big contributor who was very active and Kevin just bans him because he got triggered over nothing. I even found a Reddit thread talking about this, and how Random_Dragon (AKA chaosvolt) was the only one who bothered to fix some pretty serious bugs and they didn't understand why he got banned. According to the Redditors, he was well-liked on the forums.

I had the most fun with 0.4, but then again that's the first version I played so it may be because it was new to me that I had so much fun with it. I have a copy of the source code for that version lying around that I want to make a Mad Max conversion for one day, but I doubt I'll ever get around to it.

I think 0.9 is the last version before Kevin took over, but I'm not entirely sure.

I think this is actually a mod, I've seen it when making worlds in the latest build of Cataclysm. I always passed over it and ignored it, though. I'll try it out.

On the link you have the full release of it as a standalone. Haven't been updated since Nov, and the guy who forked it just made a post somewhere that he's retiring because of a new job, so that sucks
