My problem with that is that they try to make you feel bad for Mae with her whole 'shapes' bullshit. No. It's not a game either. It's a shitty, western visual novel that's not even well written.
It's better than Life is Strange (both are character focused, hipster games with a touch of the paranormal) mostly because it feels like someone's vision, like it was written by an actual human. Sadly that human is a massive faggot, so the story is kind of fucking grating at times. It ends suddenly and resolves nothing, too.
If you really must see it for yourself, watch an lp. It has no gameplay to speak of (ignoring a certain optional minigame), there aren't even puzzles to speak of.

It's shit. But the crocodile is kind of cute if you're into that kind of thing. The problem with the game isn't really the characters or the amount of tumblr shit, but the fact that it's boring and nothing fucking happens for literally hours of walk-around 'gameplay' until the supposed actual plot starts - and that plot gets rolled out and hastily resolved in the dumbest possible way even when it's not put on the backburner for more timewasting. Somebody involved in the project actually did have some decent ideas and they ended up completely wasted by the lazy "insecurity porn" writing.
The setting is interesting enough and visually it looks alright, but the story they tell with it is utterly boring. The Beatrice route sets up the most interesting scene in the game (reaching the height of "kind of interesting"), where she calls out Mae for being a total piece of shit all the time - and then absolutely nothing comes of it, nobody changes, they go back to being friends and do the inane supernatural plotline. Even the idea of Mae's dissociative disorder and hallucinations never amounts to anything. They don't do anything with it and it's never conveyed through a gameplay mechanic (because the game doesn't have those) or visuals (even though the game does have those, after setting up the aesthetic initially they got incredibly lazy and didn't develop it). They have the dream sequences, which is the closest it comes to actually having gameplay, and they're completely pointless and don't lead up to anything.
So what actually happens for most of the game is that you piss about with your gay fox friend, do completely pointless minigames (maybe they could have added more relevant minigames if they weren't suggested by kickstarter backers? I don't know. I think these guys ran out of ideas halfway through making their kickstarter trailer.) and just waste time until it decides its over - all while getting carpal tunnel syndrome from mashing to get through the thousands of text boxes that only have half a line of dialogue in them meme spacing finally gets its own videogame.
It's boring, it doesn't go anywhere and it's made by a hipster living in a commune in Toronto. You'd probably get a more interesting story if you skipped the game and just read fanfiction about the characters. The soundtrack is OK. It's shit.
