Asus is a good brand to start looking into. MSI is also a quality brand in terms of durability.
What you're gonna be looking for in a laptop would be the graphics capability then CPU capability.
You can upgrade RAM and disk space anyway.
I'm not so sure if GPU for laptops are inflated like >>14237251 says because if anything, I think GPUs for desktops are the ones inflated.

tried that once and i was laugh at by everyone, i went around basically carrying a 15" monitor and an ITX cube in a big ass backpack , was limited to locations just in reach of a power plug (carried a 5 meter power cord anyway but still is barely enough to clear a room) and had to find a stand or a place to put the monitor that wasn't the ground so i didn't looked like a total pleb. That said i was able to enjoy PC games comfortably at work and basically get paid for playing videogames.

actually you can get an used lap with a 960m for around $500 - 600, but the reason i don't like old laptops or used ones is that they can just suddenly die because something in the main board overheats and burns and then you have no warranty to fall back in, that happened twice to a friend who his cheap parents only gifted him used laptops, and they weren't even craptops at all, one was an used IdeaPad and the other was an HP Envy

There are absutely 0 laptops out there capable of competing with any DIY gaming desktop. If you want a decent emulation machine for N64 and older, then I'd suggest an HP Elitebook 8440p. It can run vanilla WOW with no problems out of the box and can be upgraded to a SSD if you're willing to pay for one. The only downside is that the videocard is soldered in and can't be replaced. You can usually pick one up for $150-180.

This doesn't get said enough. But I disagree with the mini PC solution. If your priorities are gaming and portability, you want a handheld, not a PC. It's a self-contained, turnkey, purpose-built device just for gaming on the go. A PC really cannot compare.
