It's the only pro league for this game if I'm not mistaken, it's a forced thing pushed by the devs just like League of Legends' pro circuit. If this dies the only thing left powering this game are casuals who are not willing to put forth the effort to push the envelope and drive new plays that can be made in the game, balance changes etc. Instead it will just be casuals bitching about one hero or the other being OP, and the balance will flip back and forth until everyone gets tired of the game because no one is satisfied. There have only ever been two times that I have enjoyed watching overwatch games. The first was right after the official release of the game when a ex TF2 player named mangachu streamed his team scrimming against one of the best teams in the world at the time. listening to callouts and their screaming was entertaining and made sense. The other time was when a bunch of streamers were trying to qualify for some large tournament together. The most popular guy had far more viewers than the official casted steam.
Overwatch is just too hectic of a game to watch without player coms. Not even the players in game are expected to know everything that is going on with the other team, that's why they spend the entire time talking to eachother. How are casual viewers with little to no game experience expected to keep up? The few times I tried watching regular tournament streams were terrible and boring. The moment I turned my brain off or tried to multitask I would instantly lose track of what was going on in the game and immediately stop caring. I also noticed that I spent half of my time starring at the ultimate meters at the top of the screen rather than watching the gameplay. Without the context of when abilities are coming up, and actively tracking where ALL 12 players are at all times, it would just looked like a mindless, meaningless clusterfuck.
This is all without breaching topics like, character diversity, switching team perspectives, players switching characters/rolls mid game, all of the standing around between fights, none of the casters being any good at the game, the SJW pandering, etc. It's just an awful viewing experience.

>Non-class based/arena shooters
Just have fun. Hell, even if you're just dying and getting wrecked over and over again, it's still fun because of all the options you have. Trying to outrun better armed people with advanced movement, figuring out what weapons work in what situations, hitting that long range railgun shot after hours of failure… even if you end the game with a kdr of 0/25, you can still have fun with an arena shooter.
I do not understand why people choose option A over option B when given this choice.

The point of a good class-based shooter is not about counter-picking. It's that you choose a class based on the needs of the overall team, and map objectives. With classic TF2, Heavies and Snipers are for defending, in their own particular way. Soldier as front-line attacker. Demoman for certain objectives and a mixture of defensive/offensive roles, Pyro to wear down enemies and be annoying. Scouts for capturing objectives and going fast. Medic and Engineer as support. Spy for subverting the enemy from behind.
Certainly I can understand preferences in style of game, but it's a mistake to dismiss the genre entirely. TFC, being based on Half-Life also allows for a lot of creative movement tech, particularly on the classes that can do grenade jumping or rocket jumping.
