Why don't modern games do jrpg styled world maps any more? Last game I can recall that used one was FF type-0 and the Bravely Defaults, but both of those are intentionally retro styled in the regard.

Any recent games with good world maps? Not open worlds.

Overworlds are too hard for gamers today to navigate. Plus they'd have to put resources into making it that could be spent elsewhere, like making obscenely retarded looking weapons.

Non sequitur.

I don't know how, but I think newer western games are getting much closer to JRPG's than what CRPG used to be in the level design. Witcher 3 felt so much like an action JRPG, it's got fixed protagonist, linear storyline, so much cutscene, locked areas, and everything typically found in an JRPG. Casualization maybe? I think it's definitely why.
