The game seems to run fine with EasyRPG Player. The guides say to not use 7zip, but it extracted everything without messing up the characters. All I did was:

>7zip extracted the 2kki.rar to its own folder
>7zip extracted the translation to its own folder

>Then copy and pasted the files into the actual 2kki folder, and hit "replace all"
>Place the easyRPGplayer.exe into the 2kki folder and used it to start the game
