I got a copy of Silent Hunter 5 for christmas because I've got a budding interest in ww2 submarines.

I am apparently retarded (and this game is admittedly buggy and clunky as fuck). Any one have any advice as to how not to fucking suck at this game, or can offer any other (possibly better) Submarine games?

Pretty much every thing so far, but mostly hitting things with my torpedoes is the biggest stumbling block. Wasn't explained too well. But again I might just be retarded.

What makes it better out of curiosity? It doesn't require Uplay right? That alone is a positive, but any thing else?

SH3 is probably a better starting point, 4 and 5 had some issues with even getting manual targeting to work properly. Pretty sure mods have gotten that sorted out at this point though.

download the wolves of steel mod and it makes it bearable

it also fixes up torpedo shooting but don't upgrade your torps unless you plan on never using the auto aim since it assumes you're using no upgrades

SH5 would have been perfect had they actually polished the game. They might have fixed things now though, haven't tried it in a year
