we grew up in the 90s and played so many great games together, he was usually better. then we went to (different) colleges, graduated, and he stopped playing games, changed politically, then got back into gaming years later… to which i thought "oh we can play games again like the good old days". then he did that because one of his friends did and encouraged me to do the same.

i dont know when he started to get into it, but he told me that maybe 2-3 months ago. i havnt brought up video games to him since, since he's defended fez, phil phish, super meatboy, gone home was "pretty good", and "nu-doom is oldschool fun" and defended against my skepticism and criticism of it by calling those people "losers with no life" and accused me of buying into some nostalgic hipster hivemind knowing im not even a huge fan of the originals (i was more into UT and quake). but a month later, he wasnt playing it, didnt beat it, and he got bored with it and couldnt get into it for some unspecified reason but blames himself.

i dont know if he still plays destiny 2, i didnt ask.

i stopped trying, im pretty sure he's beyond salvation at this point.
